We are looking to add-on to our DVC "portfolio". We will (probably) not be buying anytime in the near future, but maybe the beginning of next year. Currently we have 320 AKL, 150 GCV, and 150 HHI. We (more than likely) will NOT buy anything at WDW (except at AKL) and we (I think!) have enough of GCV to go every 2 or 3 years...so we won't be adding on there. That leaves more points at HHI or AKL or adding VB or AHV. We're thinking of around 180-225 points. (if we buy AHV it will be 180)

We met with a guide at the BLT models yesterday to check them out (just curious!) and to get some additional information about AHV. Thankfully, this time-share salesman was not our first contact with DVC or we would not be members now...he was very aggressive. He stated that if we didn't own at AHV, probably we'd never stay there--it was going to be so popular with the west coast and Japan. He told me that they had little to no information about AHV, mainly because that there in FL, they wouldn't sell much Hawaii--that their WDW market would mainly be interested in WDW. But, he said that AHV was selling in CA like gangbusters. I didn't believe a word he said. He really made us feel like we were odd because we were interested in purchasing there...like no one else had even asked about Hawaii. I thought that if that's how DVC is going to present AHV, then yes, he is right--the WDW guides will not sell a lot of AHV points.

So, getting back onto topic, what should we do? If we purchased AHV, we'd wait to do so until late spring or early summer of 2011 (I don't want to buy now, because our travel plans are to visit AHV in June '12--I'd buy to take advantage of the 11 month window---I just can't give DVC that much money now, for something we'd not be able to use until our 11 month booking window). Or, do we buy resale (probably around 225), and pocket the difference (to pay all these MF's!) I know all we can do is guess, but do you think if we are flexible with our dates, will it be possible to book a 7 or 8 day vacation in a 1 or 2 bedroom (any view except standard) at the 7 month window? I really don't know what to do...there are some really good resale deals around...

You'll have to decide what you want to do. Personally I'd look at non DVC timeshares for other trips in your situation or if I wanted to add points, add at SSR, because I think they'll be cheaper overall, to use as a stash of points.
