Coming from NYC, i find it INSANE how expensive it is to take a taxi from MCO to a hotel. Its a 20 minute drive, how can it be $60+?! Was also really bummed to see that uber is not allowed to pick up at the airport...that's what I was counting on. I wish there were something between a taxi & a bus. I know there's always mears shuttle (staying offsite), but even 22$ each way per person is a lot to me....

Don't know how big your traveling party is but you might be able to rent a car for less than $60. Rentals are usually fairly reasonable in the Orlando area I've found.

This is why we often end up with a rental car.
It is also one of the things we take into account when comparing onsite vs. off site costing. For 5 of us the shuttle fee's can really add up.

Plus, offsite shuttles to the parks can be really unreliable ... and sporadic. Unless I were staying ONsite, I would never want to be without a car.

theres only two of us...so nothing is really cost effective. wahhh ...we thought about renting a car (we are actually getting one for our second part of our trip to visit family), but our hotel is 17$ a day for parking. I know I need to just suck it up and get a shuttle or convince myself the ease of a taxi is worth it...but i don't want to lol. luckily, our hotel offers a shuttle to the parks for free, just not to the airport.

I took a taxi to a hotel from mco and remember thinking $50 seemed like a lot! It was my first taxi ride though so I didn't know much about the cost. Recently I took one around Boston and it was crazy cheap. Maybe we traveled farther than I thought in Orlando, but it scared me away from taxis for a while lol.

Seriously! I live in NYC, so I am used to sticker shock (which is why I think I won't be blown over by food prices in WDW), but a 20 minute ride for that much?!

Does anyone know if it is cheaper to just hail a cab rather than arrange one prior to arrival?

I was able to find a 10% off code for Super Shuttle...so maybe that is the best option?

...I can't complain, because in 5 days I will be in the happiest place on earth!!!!

The fares to and from the NYC airports are pretty high too, no?

JFK/Manhattan is a flat rate of $52 plus tolls plus tip.

Agreed that it's high...but I think I can justify that price because it is a much longer than 20 minute ride, but maybe I'm just OK with it because I never take a cab to the airport (I live 10 minutes from JFK).

So what is the price for a cab from LaGuardia to Times Square? I ended up taking a shuttle van and price was comparable to what you would pay out of MCO to take a shuttle. (Something around $20pp, I thought. It was 5 years ago.)

We flew down last May for a conference. It worked out better to stay on Disney property and take ME, then I took a can between Pop Cenutry and Gaylord Palms. That short little jaunt was around $10 or so. (I am blanking on actual costs.)

So I feel your pain somewhat. I would have rented a car, but I was concerned the rental companies would say no when I showed up in a walking boot on my driving foot even though I was medically cleared to drive.

Renting a car isn't really cost prohibitive, but parking at our hotel is...I couldn't bring myself to rent a car and pay for parking at both the hotel & the parks when I could just take a shuttle to the park for free. I know I'm just being just being crazy...I think I am going to pull the trigger on the super shuttle with the 10% off.

You can rent a towncar round trip that includes one stop-off on the way for the same price you paid one way. They list a lot of these places in the Unofficial Guide. My wife and I used Tiffany's Towncar when we were staying at Fort Wilderness and it worked out perfectly. You just have to book with them ahead of time.

Just a heads up on the Shuttle - I took one 2 years ago and we went all the way to Universal and then back to WDW. It took almost 2 hours to get to my hotel. I now take a cab if I can't get MDE because my time and sanity are worth more to me than the cab fee.

Sorry It looks like all the towncars are the same $60 too...at least most of them include a 30 minute stop off for groceries...
