Just need to gripe for a minute...

The Mystery Machine said:
I never had a grandparent at any of my birthday's EVER in my life. Look on the bright side.

I dont think I did either. Maybe one or two when I was really young, but nothing that I remember.

I'll never forget my 18th birthday. My mom was starting a new job, 4 hours a way from where we lived, so I was living alone in our old place until she could get us set up in the new town. She forgot to call me to wish me a happy birthday. My birthday is 3 days after hers so it's not like its easy to forget! My dad also didnt call me that day. My grandmother who ALWAYS sent me a card a week before my birthday was gone at her sisters that week, so I didnt get my card until a couple days after my birthday. I made my own birthday cake and cried while I ate it. Yep, 18 pretty much sucked!

Her brother is fine. Just slightly anti-social at times.

How horrible to have your birthday be declared nonexistant! The whole situation must have been very difficult for you. :grouphug: I am glad to hear they came through their health problems ok, though.

 Like I tell my kids, your birthday isnt a national holiday!

For my oldest, when he turned 21 we did not do much for him on his birthday. He was working and getting ready to go back to college. I gave him a card with 21 dollars, a gift card ,took him out to eat. People, yes, even parents, granparents, are so busy, that it is hard to celebrate on the day.

My Dh travels a lot for his work. So I have lost count of how many of my, his, and the kids birthdays we have had to put on "hold" for when he returned. Just part of life.

Be thankful your grandparents are healthy, which I am sure you are. That is a gift in itself. :cake: :bday: :flower3:

I get it, I really do. Thank you again to all who have posted your thoughts.

I am sorry. Grandparents are very special people. My grandparents were always around at all occasions. They didnt always live in the same town, but they were never more than about an hour away. My grandfather was like a father to me, My relationship with my father has been strained for many years. When I got married 10 years ago my grandfather gave me away and my dad was in attendance. He knew our relationship and understood what my grandfather meant to me. I was always very spoiled by my grandparents. Not necessarily in material things, but with time and love. My grandfather died 6 years ago and I was the only one with him when he died and as much as it hurt to watch him pass I wouldn't change that for the world.
