Just need some support - today is a bad day

Hi All-

My grandfather has been in the hospital since January 4th. He was admitted with a suspected small stroke and it turned out to be encephalytis (sp?). He developed pneumonia as well and the infection just wought havoc on his 82 year old body. He has no chance of a cognitive recovery and the infection is coming back again. Yesterday my mother and her sisters decided to discontiue use of antibiotics and feeding tube on the advice of Grandpa's doctors. Grandpa is now receiving hospice care and the timeframe we are looking at is the end of the week. Simply, my heart is broken. I was never particularly close with my grandfather and always suspected he simply didn't like me much. He loves my children and cried like a baby when my son died. He is my last grandparent. At this point I am hoping it all goes quickly. I just can't believe he'll be gone soon. My family has lost three grandparents in the span of 16 months. I know I'm rambling, and I am sorry. It's just such a crummy thing. There is a lot of family drama going on with all of this as well. I am just looking ahead beyond all of this and wanting things calm again. No more drama. No more up and down for Grandpa. Just peace.

Hi Erin! I'm sorry you're feeling so bad and I hope things go peacefully with your grandfather. It's been a long time since I have had to deal with this in my close family and I hope I don't have to go through it anytime soon. Even if you aren't particularly close, it seems that this stuff really dredges up feelings that we've suppressed or didn't even know we had.

So sorry it's been a stressful time for your family. Always sad to lose a loved one, specially in such a short span and hope your Gdad will find peace soon. Having recently lost 2 best friends too cancer I feel your pain . May you be granted xtra strength and faith for brighter days ahead.
