so I have done most of my training for this marathon in my basement on my trusty treadmill. (yes including my long runs). this has been alsmot a necessity between the weather here in PA and the fact that I only get to run at night after putting my DD to bed.... what has kept me motivated throughout was a steady stream of DVD's (most recently all 7 Seasons of the West Wing followed by all 6 seasons of Sex in the City--yes its really the only time I actually watch TV). SO last night I am slogging along and after 35 minutes--my DVD player just stops working. kaput. 2 weeks to the big race and I got NADA going on with my entertainment set-up. Yes I still have cable but I cant stand commercials while running so this is a bit of a set back. I may be sprinting out to Wal Mart today for a new cheapie DVD player. ugh. LOL

Well, Renee, at least it was not the TM, which is not cheap to replace. ;)

Not that it has anything to do with my running but my microwave died yesterday. Kids on vaca from school and no microwave......

yeah--losing the treadmill would have been very bad. but 2 or more hours on a treadmill with bad TV is just unbearable... LOL

re: microwave--I cant live without mine but my older sister (who has 2 pre-teens) has not owned a microwave in 10 years. we always joke about it but I have no idea how she manages. LOL

I agree with the long time on the TM and no entertainment. I tote my portable DVD player into the basement as we have no hookup down there (yet) and watch a movie on my LR or I head into the gym because even though it is not my choice on programs (usually soaps), it is distracting and something to look at. I listen to my iPod in the gym and just watch the screen. :happytv:

I could live without the microwave and be happy but the rest of my family could not. My DD is 13 and DS is 6 and they use it a lot. I rarely use it and never have. In fact, I have to say, the poor thing was 17 years old and was in the house when I moved in from DH bach days.

all is not lost on the dvd player--I forgot not only do we have a portable, but I can steal my DH's PS2 which has not been used in some time--and hook it up to play DVDs.

we use our microwave almost every day. mainly to heat up/steam the veggies for dinner. watching my sister do that in a pot on a stove always blows my mind.. LOL. I keep forgetting thats how we did it in the "old days".

when we built our house we had a double oven installed. my sister laughed at that beucase I dont really cook all that much--her comment was we would get more use out of a double microwave... LOL I have to say--that in the 5 years we have been in the house, I have used both ovens at the same time probably about a half dozen times max.

yep. the one that went kaput on me last night I got at Target this summer for $29!

two years ago I got one at Sears on the day after thanksgiving for $19.

well the PS2 hookup worked for my final long run this weekend (I watched 2 movies--While you Were Sleeping and A few Good Men--worked very well for keeping me entertained for those 4 hours!) . I only managed to get to 18.5 as we had company come in from Georgia and I didnt want them to arrive while I was a nasty sweaty mess (They showed up right as I got out of the shower! LOL!). I am a little nervous that 18 is my longest run for this race (20 was my long last time). but I will have the magic of disney to keep me moving forward. I am getting that darn mickey medal if I have to crawl the last 6 miles.... LOL

only 2 more weeks!

Yay! for figuring out a way!

I've got to learn to be a smarter shopper. I like the price you found for the DVD player. I don't own one b/c I just cannot see spending for it. Now what you paid, I could part with that.
