Hi guys, I'm new over on the UK boards but I've been running wild on the dl pages since last year. But recently I've moved to Scotland and I'm having the hardest time finding a yummy drink both alcoholic and non so I'm wondering what all your favorites are.

In Canada iced tea was my favorite non alcoholic and my favorite alcoholic is probably wine (but I'm not very good at choosing yummy wines I just usually drink what other people order me) but wines aren't the best pub drinks. Let me know your faves!

And why is lemonade here actually sprite?

As alcoholic try Baileys

Hope you settle in well in your new home.

For a lovely alcohol drink, try a Pimms. Perfect for summer. :)

And cider isn't apple cider as we know it. It's an alcohol drink.

Thanks guys! I'm loving the uk so far, it's actually not so different from Canada so I think that's helped me to settle in easier. So cider? Is it good? I've heard of the Pimms but didn't know what it was, next time I'll try it. Is it a cocktail or is it in a bottle?

Hi there !! If you now live in Scotland you just have to try the Malt whisky
that is so famous here.

For non alcoholic - we do sell ice tea in some stores like Tesco.

Lemonade is lemon flavour, sprite has lime with it. As for Pimms it needs to be mixed with the afore mentioned lemonade and ice. Some people like to add fruit and mint to it.

Pimms is a fortified wine, not quite like a sherry but heading slightly in that direction. When you order it in a pub it comes mixed with lemonade (their lemonade, not fresh-squeezed lemonade), with small wedges of fruit floating in it (lemon, lime, orange, maybe some other fruits depending on where you get it). But the real kicker is, it's traditionally also served with small chunks of cucumber along with the fruit! Try it...it's really nice!

Welcome to the UK :goodvibes I hope you will be very happy here.

As others have said, Pimms is lovely. Shame we haven't got the nice summer weather to accompany it.....

As for non-alcoholic, I like Irn-bru - and it is made in Scotland! It's a soda, but I'm not sure I could explain the taste to you - give it a try.

Hi Christina,

Welcome to the UK! Alberta seems to be losing its residents one by one! I'm from Edmonton but i've lived here for 12 years now. What brings you over here?

You'll love the wines here. so much variety. As for the iced tea, Lipton's do Ice Tea in bottles (at work we have the lemon and the peach flavoured). And I even bought Clamato juice at my Waitrose (the check out girl asked what it was and when I told her she gave me a strange look!).

And although I love love love Molson Canadian I have also learned to love different types of lager and ales here, so its worth trying these too!

If you're homesick for anything you can try http://www.canadashop.uk.com. They are great and deliver, i've used them a few times. They sell Nestea icea tea and the all important Tim Horton's coffee :cool1:

I hope you love it here! If you have any questions feel free to PM me!

I don't think you can beat a Gin and Tonic with ice and a slice of lime, another favourite Baileys or Malibu and milk over ice.
For non alcoholic lemonade and lime or tomato juice with worcester sauce and tobasco (makes it peppery);)

I'm adding another vote for Baileys over ice or Pimms

Irn-Bru is also made about half a mile from our House at Barrs and we are no where near Scotland. :thumbsup2

Since you are living in Scotland you really need to try Irn-Bru. It has a very unique taste but it grows on you after a while.

Personally I love champagne as an alcoholic. Obviously I'm not drinking that all the time so my other alcoholic favourite is Peach Schnapps and Fresh Orange Juice.

My favourite cocktail is a banana daquiri ~ It tastes just like a McDonalds Milkshake but with a kick of rum, lovely!!

Wonderful!! Now I have a few new drinks to order at a restaurant instead of coke and some drinks to try in the pub. I have had Irn Bru and it was great, I didn't know they made it in Scotland though. We actually bought some the first night we were here because we didn't know what it was. We asked the lady at the counter what it was and she just said Irn-Bru. We said, we know that's what it's called but what does it taste like, she laughed and said Irn Bru. After trying it I understand what she meant.

Now this Vimto...where can I get it? I've never heard of it or seen it before.

Booknut - We came to the UK for a change and a little adventure. We lived in Edmonton for years and got tired of it and moved to Calgary and we still weren't satisfied so thought we'd try the UK and we love it! Hubby was able to transfer with his work and we're settling in quite nicely and everyone here is so friendly so I haven't had a chance to be homesick yet. What is your favorite wine? I'm not a wine conessieur (I can't even spell it) but I love a good red wine, any recommendations? I can't wait to try some real champagne but haven't a clue about that either.

Any more favorites? How about your favorite ale? I'm always too shy to order a beer because I don't know how to pronounce the names lol.

That all sounds wonderful. I'll have to find some good champagne, I've never had real champagne only sparkling wine and I heard it's not the same. I'll HAVE to have a banana daquiri. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
