Just moved to Northern Virginia. . .

Okay, so I need opinions. We want to visit the amusement parks around these parts. Which is your favorite: King's Dominion, Busch Gardens, Six Flags, or Hershey park? (Maybe there are others, I don't know).

And YIKES, it is hot today. We are going fishing and I'm not sure how pleasant that will be! Hopefully it will be nice in the shade.

1. Busch Gardens (favorite for theming and being pretty, but it's 2 hours away).
2. King's Dominion (lots of rides, not the prettiest park, but again LOTS of rides and only 1 hour 10 minutes away).
3. Hershey Park (I probably like this better than King's Dominion but you can't beat the travel time to King's Dominion).
4. Six Flags--Horrible place--shouldn't even be on this list.

Though we went to a FABULOUS restaurant last night for our annivesary.

You CANNOT make a statement like that and leave out the name of the restaurant!!!!

so weird..I put my name on the list to get information about new developments in Silver Springs, MD and in DC, but due to state licensing restrictions, people in NJ can't receive information via fax, mail, email, or phone about the developments. I'd have to go there in person. :confused3

SORRRRRRYYYYY!!!!!!

L'Auberge Chez Francois--Price Fixe (sp?) menu where entre is in the $60s range...but it includes appetizer or soup, a house salad, entree, and dessert.

It also included a little piece of quiche (DIVINE!!!) while your appetizer was being prepped and a palate cleanser (ours was a grapefruit sorbet).

They served a champagne last night that they mixed 7 raspberry liquors--it was YUM!

And the cheesecake--absolute best we have ever had.

Expensive--but it was our anniversary so it was good for that. They do have "regulars"--who must be loaded with money. LOL! We would be in the barely can afford once per year--and they have people that go once a week or biweekly. YIKES!

Bottle of wine--two champagne things, our meal and hubby upgraded his salad--with tip it came to $240. And it was worth every penny.

Loved the atmosphere as well.

And they did some type of concoction for our anniversary--a little chantilly cream and a meringue with chocolate shavings and a little happy anniversary chocolate and a candle. :)

Lisa, that was my father's favorite restaurant when we lived in NoVA. I have never been, but it was that good 20 plus years ago and that expensive.

I agree with Christine on her list. I love Busch Gardens, but so far away. KD and Hershey are both great parks. Six Flags - I will NEVER set foot in the one in MD again. UGH. And I had free tickets last time!

On another note, if you decide to go to Six Flags....let me know, I have a coupon on the Wendy's Frosty cup that I'm drinking out of right now. :lmao: $10 off weekend or $15 off weekday admission, good up to 6 people.

I'm in Woodbridge. (Not sure whether to insert "smilie" or "frownie" here).
Hey, Christine! I didn't realize you live in Woodbridge. I lived there for one month about 10 years ago. :lmao: I freaked a bit and got my job back in FL.

Welcome to Northern VA!! My sister lives in Fairfax. I'm about 3 hours southeast of you. Yes, I finally returned to VA and have been here 2 years now. I LOVE it!! However, I could be persuaded to move outside of Richmond!!

Enjoy the area you're in. You're right...lots to do!

Not taking driving into account, I would rate Hershey Park #1, then it depends on #2. Busch if you're going more for atmosphere, Kings Dominion if you're going more for rides. Then Six Flags. I've heard that they've improved the park, but I went about 4-5 years ago and it was bad. Kings Dominion is so close to you, though, so that can't be beat (must be about an hour).

Thanks for the opinions on the theme parks. Looks like we'll be trying King's Dominion first. Some friends of ours want to plan a trip in a few weeks. Sounds fun! I went to King's Island in Cincinnati when I was a teenager. It was so much fun! I really want to go to Busch Gardens though. In Vegas we would see the commercials and it looks really great.

Tigger & Belle: Your tag inspired me to try Mr. Clean Magic Eraser for the first time yesterday. I love it!

Lisa Loves Pooh: That restaurant sounds really good. I'm going to keep that in mind for my anniversary in October. I couldn't afford to go there regularly either!

You guys have me worried. We are doing Kings Dominion for DD's birthday--please don't tell me the park is bad. :(

No, it is NOT bad. It's no Disney park though, and don't even go there thinking that. Paramount tried to pull off the "movie" theming years ago and it just didn't go over well (not like it does at MGM or Universal).

I mean, I'm wondering if they are still doing the whole Wayne's World theming over by the Hurler coaster? I haven't been in a few years and I can't remember. Tigger&Belle would know. So, in that regard (theming) it just isn't wonderful. But, last time I went, it was clean, everything was freshly painted, nice looking and the rides were a wonderful mix.

Hi there!

I'm not in your area but we almost moved to Las Vegas from Southern CA (due to the price of housing). My DH really wanted to settle there, but I told him that I couldn't live in Vegas being that it was so brown. I would have missed all the greenery plus the heat would have killed me. (I think we were looking in "The Lakes" at that time.)

Anyway, long story short, we ended up in Michigan in a Detroit Suburb. Not too much to do in my area but I love all the GREENERY & I could never live anywhere again that didn't have a fall season! You'll love the fall!! The air is so crisp & clean & the jeweled colored leaves just takes my breath away!

I hope you & your family will be happy there & sending you good wishes for a fun future in your new hometown! (My childhood best friend lives in Richmond ~ don't know where that is in comparison to you but she's originally from NY & she just LOVES living in VA.)

:rotfl2: That's funny!

We're going to Kings Island this summer for a couple days. Don't ask me why we're going to Ohio for vacation--no, we don't have relatives in Ohio! :rotfl:

I think that the only place at KD where they've pulled off any decent theming, if you'd even call it that, is around Volcano and the new Italian Job coaster. And it's not really even theming as much as just a nice area. Maybe the kiddy areas are nice, but Jake is too old for that.

Maybe we need a DIS meet at KD this summer. I'm always game with my season passes. :teeth:

I remember the diner theme over by Hurler, but that's all I remember. I'm actually trying to forget everything about that area since that coaster is one of the worse I've ever been on!

I think DD realizes stuff isn't disney. She loved the rides at IOA--loves them at our Festival at church and she just sees this as something different with MORE rides. LOL!

We are not doing coasters this trip--just all the stuff they are both tall enough for and will hit the "water" part since it will be hot and they love water and hubby hates his own sweat--so anything to get it off he will enjoy doing. LOL!

But I shall set "my" expectations very very low. Then I should be pleasently surprised. :)

Where are you?

We are in Falls Church (temporarily though--we go back to Florida at the end of next month).

We're in Springfield.

Christine:

We finally got our cable hooked up today. :) But I'm lost.

Is there a TV guide channel that tells which channel is NBC, CBS, and ABC, etc? And tells what is on each channel. My Tivo is not hooked up yet, so I don't have that to help me. (DH will do it when he gets home).

I don't want to miss Young and the Restless and Days of our Lives! I don't even know what time those shows start here. I haven't been able to watch them since I left Vegas. Thank you!

I don't have cable - we have Directv, but I think the cable companies use the same numbers. NBC is 4, ABC is 7, CBS is 9. DOOL is on at 1pm. I'm not sure about the other show. I'm a Days fan. :hourglass

NBC-4
FOX -5
ABC-7
CBS-9

The Sunday paper will have a TV Guide in it. I know if you get basic cable, there is no longer a "rolling screen" guide on the TV. They topped that a few months ago.
