Just moved to Northern Virginia. . .

Greetings from another No VA resident. I live in Fairfax County but work in DC. I like living in this area. Enjoy the cool weather, as the dog days of July and August will be here before we know it.

We're in Annapolis, MD! Welcome!

We've been wearing sweatshirts, too! It's funny as Vegas is on our list of places we'd like to live! :confused3

What is it about Vegas that makes it a place you are interested in living? Just curious. Isn't that funny how the grass is always greener? (Well, it literally is for me. . . ) :)

Now me, I just got here on Saturday and haven't gotten a job yet (I'm a teacher) so who knows if I'll have to deal with it. Who knows if I'll even be able to get a job? (Fingers Crossed!)
What do you teach? We live in the western part of Prince William by I-66 and there are a few new schools opening (thank goodness) - so teaching jobs are opening up now. If you don't get a job before school starts, pick a school or 2 you'd like to teach in and sub there. Get to know the principal and staff, make sure the person who fills the sub jobs knows you're a certified teacher and you should get in with a permanent job during the school year. If you happen to be LD certified you're golden and will have the pick of jobs probably.

I teach Kindergarten. Good to know that there are new schools opening. Not looking forward to the job search.

Subbing is a good idea, I would love to work part time again. I used to sub in Vegas for a few years before I began teaching full-time.

It was hot today :sunny: but still a lot more pleasant than Vegas!

I waved to you when I was passing by on I-95 yesterday driving with my boys to Kings Dominion! Did you see me? :rotfl2:

Yes, the weather warmed up--this is more typical June weather.

 Another Prince William County resident checking in! I live in Bristow along the Linton Hall corridor. Its nice to see so many 'locals' here. Welcome to No.Va BbGrizzle.

I think this is the perfect thread to post my question on. A few months back, I saw a vehicle leaving my subdivision with the license plate "DsnyDva" or something like that. I told DH that it MUST be another DISer! Anyone want to claim that plate? I've been dying to know!! :goodvibes

I was starting to think I was going crazy with everyone saying it was so cool here. Then again, maybe it's just the pregnancy that is making the weather seem unbearable to me already. We went to a pool party today and I was sweltering.

Anyway, welcome to the area! We live in DC-been here 4 years and we'll be here at least another 4. We have friends who just moved to Buffalo from your area, Lorton to be specific, but they only had a 2 bedroom townhouse so that probably wouldn't work for you. I really think it's a nice place to live though and wouldn't mind staying here past the 4 years we're obligated.

Oh, Caity, did you graduate last month? I think I remember you saying it was your last year, but not sure. We were at the graduation on the mall, but I spent most of my time in the Air and Space Musuem with my daughter to escape the heat. I got back just in time for the end of the Bushes speech.

Hi and welcome to NoVa! I am one of those rare people who was actually born and raised here. When I was a child there was no Beltway, and no Dulles Airport, so that should tell you I have been here, well, a long time. I live in Springfield (Fairfax County), just a hop, skip and jump from Lakeridge/Woodbridge.

You are really close to Potomac Mills Outlet Mall, and I should warn you right now, they have a Disney Store there! I usually wind up there every other week or so (it's right next to Bath & Body Works, so if one store doesn't get my money the other usually does).

That one is actually a Disney Store outlet! Very cool! It used to be a catalog outlet, which I miss dearly. :guilty:

So, that's who that wildly waving NUT was!!!

Actually, I was thinking about you on my way home from work yesterday. 95 Northbound looked like a gridlock. Probably was fine in the evening though.

Bbgrizzle,

Just a side note on the teaching. My carpool mate has a son who is a few years out of Radford University. He was an English major there. Didn't know what he wanted to do so he went to work at FEDEX. I always thought he'd be a GREAT teacher but he would not listen to me.

Anyway, he got married last year to a young woman who is a kindergarten teacher in Prince William County. Not sure of what school, but it is near Gainsville I believe (where they live). *SHE* managed to talk him into teaching. So he has been accepted into George Mason to get his Master's and, in the meantime, applied to the Prince William County school system. He found out on Thursday that they have offered him a one-year teaching contract to teach English at Gar-Field High School. Probably not what he wanted exactly. My point is, I think it might be relatively easy to get a teaching job here!

Well, the truth is that I did wave...really! Going each direction...don't laugh!!! :rotfl: However, it was a pinkie wave... Going down Zach, my 12yo was sitting shotgun and he wouldn't have thought much about me waving to DISers (he enjoyed looking for DISers at WDW and thinks I find the answers to everything here), but going home I had Ben, my 15yo next to me. He thinks the DISboards are  and he would have laughed at me. So I just did a pinkie wave. :lmao: But I did wave!

Now you know it's true that I really am friendly (thinking about the thread when I commented that I wave at everyone in my neighborhood :teeth: ).

Traffic was fine by the time we drove home, but I was so tired since we stayed until after 8PM. I don't do well driving when I'm tired or sleepy, but had no choice--I was wishing that my DH or my DD was with me so I could have made someone else drive. Didn't take long, though--about an hour and 45 minutes driving home. When I got sleepy I kept thinking about how my 6yo made me ride the big drop ride a couple times--that would wake me up. :teeth:

You are a brave woman!!! I have given up on stuff like that. The adrenaline surge I get before getting on such a thing is just too much for this 42 year old!! I'm such an old fart. :teeth:

I must say I am not happy about the sweatshirts. At least it was hot today.

I'm in Fairfax County. Most everybody is down in Prince William where my parents are.

I was scared stiff before going on the drop ride the first time. I kept trying to talk Jake out of going. Telling him how high it was, that he could change his mind. My 12 and 15yo's wouldn't go on it with us--only the 6yo wanted to go. Some girls who must have been about 10-12 were talking to us, telling us how much we'll like it. Right before doing it I did tell him that he's the bravest 6yo that I've ever met (it's true...) As soon as we were done, Jake said, "I want to do that again!" (and I agreed--love that ride once I do it). So we went on it again a little while later and I talked the older boys into going. :teeth: The anticipation gets me everytime. Volcano is a great coaster, too! And we got to to the new Italian Job, which was fun, but the launch made me dizzy and I almost blacked out (same with my 12yo and earlier in the week to my DD).

We bought season passes to King's Dominion this year.

One of our favorite things to do is stand outside the log flume and put quarters in those squirty machines and get the flume riders as they come around the last turn of the ride. :lmao:

We're here temporarily. Just outside of DC. Sorry to say I cannot wait to get back to Florida.

Got my official welcome this week--the van got towed! We didn't see any signs and had just had an emergency and our complex NEVER fills with cars and their wasn't one single space availalbe :(. So our car got a temporary vacation from use! :).

I like visiting--but not really living here. Though we went to a FABULOUS restaurant last night for our annivesary. Hubby keep saying--if you move here you'll have all this.

But I miss my beach and all my fun Florida life.

Welcome to the area! Definitely a great place to be!

Lisa, you're here on vacation or living here for a little while?

LadyyRedd, that's always a good pasttime--squirting people! :teeth: I like to be the one getting squirted--I put my thumbs in my ears and wiggle my fingers and tell them what a lousy job they're doing, etc. :rotfl2: Yep, somehow I get the wettest on the boat!!! :rotfl:

Hubby has been working here since November and we are here for 2 months with him living in Falls Church. He's here until Nov 1st this year.

Okay, so I need opinions. We want to visit the amusement parks around these parts. Which is your favorite: King's Dominion, Busch Gardens, Six Flags, or Hershey park? (Maybe there are others, I don't know).

And YIKES, it is hot today. We are going fishing and I'm not sure how pleasant that will be! Hopefully it will be nice in the shade.
