I didn't call them chocolate covered pretzels, since they aren't quite covered...but my DS called me on my cell yesterday afternoon and told me he needed to bring in a snack for their holiday party today (grrr...and I had just asked him the night before if he needed anything for the party when we were at the grocery store!) I was right by target, so I zipped in and bought all the ingredients. Someone had posted these as a suggestion on the community board, I'm sorry I don't remember who the OP was!

They were really easy, and my kids loved helping. Just be forewarned that the chocolate is hot when it comes out of the oven, so tell the kids to be careful!

You'll need:
mini-pretzels
Hershey kisses
Holiday M&Ms

Oven 275 degrees.

I put these on a sheet of aluminum foil on top of a cookie sheet. Line up the pretzels one inch apart. Unwrap the kisses, and place one on top of each pretzel. Pop in the oven for 4 minutes, or until the chocolate is soft but not melted. Pull them out and press 2 M&Ms on top, squishing the chocolate into the grooves of the pretzel. Cool in the fridge (or in my case, the "Walk-in fridge" aka, my garage!) for 30 minutes.

They were reallllly tasty and fun to make! My son was thrilled that he made most of the snacks for his class. :)

Enjoy!

Another way you can do that is by using those chocolate disks that you use to make candies with. Not sure what they are called but Wilson the cake decoraters make them. Put those on top and bake at 250 for 2 to 3 min. and them place one m& m on top. I like to use the different colored chocolate disks for different holiday's. Green disks with red m&m's. red with pink m&m for Valentines day etc...

oh fun idea! I have some white & br choc discs in my cupboard thanks! :sunny:

Variation on the theme, I make these every year for my neighbor:

Use the big, thick Bavarian pretzels (the ones that have holes)
Melt 1/2 bag of semi-sweet chips, 1/2 bag white choco chips, and 1/2 bag milk choco chips

Fill the bottom hole of the pretzels with peanut butter. Line 'em up on wax paper or parchment.

Dip the bottom part of each pretzel in the melted choco of your choice. Put them down on the paper and let them harden up so that the pb is sealed in there.

Drizzle a contrasting chocolate over top to make them pretty. (I use the tines of a fork to do this.)

I saw these in a gourmet shop for $9.95/lb!!!

Silly question, but do the m&m's serve a purpose (like do I need them to push down the chocolate?) or are they just "extras"? I have "Hugs" and pretzels.

These are great - however, I have always used a bulk chocolate and melted it first, and then spooned it into the circles. The M&M's probably help to flatten the kisses. With using melted chocolate - they probably more decorative than anything. This works well with white chocolate too! And as a crowning decoration - I usually drizzle some of the opposite color chocolate on top!

These are fast and easy to make!

Unfortunately every new recipe that I have tried this weekend has not worked out well. But I thought these were easy enough that the kids could do them.....but I must have done something wrong. First of all, I made mine with circle pretzels. But that was the only difference. I warmed up the kisses at 275 for 4 minutes but when I went to moosh the M&M's on it....they chocolate was not very melted (not enough to fill in the space of the circle), so I put them back in the oven for 2 more minutes and the kisses were harder than before. Is there some secret that I am not aware of? I just saw the post about the melted chocolate and that is what I might have to do instead.

This is going to sound crazy, but have you checked your oven's thermometer lately? Perhaps it is not heating correctly? I had this problem at my old house - at the high temps it was fine, at the low ones, it was awful.

great recipe for the pb & chocolate pretzles. thanks!

sgrossy, sounds like your oven runs hot; trying using a lower temp. If the temp is too high, the sugar starts to crystalize in the chocolate.

I had this happen when making a 3rd batch of these; forgot to set the timer, and they were like rocks when i took them out.

Aren't these goooood?? We had them at a church dinner a couple weeks ago and I loved them!! I made up about 5 dozen for pur Christmas Eve get-together last night and they were the hit of the party. So easy and yummy!!! :teeth:

I appreciate all of the suggestions. I was at my sister's house so I am not sure about her oven. I will be attempting them at my house for a New Years Eve party....so wish me luck!!
