my ds(9)driving our ride on lawnmower around our lawn:scared1: but the best of it is my little guy is paralized from his waist down:scared1::scared1:looks like he's not gonna let a little detail like that stop him:yay::cloud9:

Okay, you can't leave us hanging like that! I see you're from Ireland, so maybe your lawnmowers are different than here. Our riding lawnmowers are all foot pedals for gas and brake. Is his all hand-controls? Or is someone in your family a tinkerer like my dh, and they rigged it?

Anyway, our older dd used to love to sit and ride with me while I was mowing the lawn. I bet your son is having a blast!:goodvibes

Cute!
And especially appreciated by me here in cold Minnesota

I had a friend whose son has autism (she used to work with me, but left - so that's why I say I had a friend).
anyway, her son loved to mow the lawn. All winter he had a countdown calendar for when he would be able to mow again.
Your post made me think of him and smile ( and I need a smile tonight)

Thanks

Awesome for him, and that it's "just" your lawnmower.

When dd was three (she's high functioning autistic), she drove my van into the garage for me...taking out a sidewall as she "parked".

I needed a new garage and van anyway.... :lmao:

Not a scratch on her, so retrospect is pretty funny. :rotfl:

It's good to have a useful skill. ;) Train them young and save yourself some work.

Last summer DH let oldest DS drive our lawn mower down the alley a block to go put more gas in it. (DH walked next to him the whole way) There must have been a half dozen kids in their backyards, as he drove, stop playing and watch him. He thought he was all that and a bag of chips, waving like he was in a parade. :cloud9:

Now, he won't actually mow our grass but he likes to drive the lawn mower. I guess you take what you can get, maybe we'll get him trained up this summer.

Congrats to your DS, that's really cool, and I'm jealous that the weather is nice enough there right now to have the lawn mower out.

That rocks! :rockband:

My DS runs the other way at the mere mention of a lawnmower. (sensory overload) Not complaining though because he LIKES to clean the toilet. :scared:

Seriously, your DS has a great attitude.

That is an awesome story! Thanks for sharing it; I really appreciate it tonight, the laugh was needed:) I can't wait to see what he gets up to next week to top it!!

I had a similar experience with my DS when he just had turned 7. I was getting out of the shower when I heard the riding lawn mower. Now DH had just mowed the day before so what's going on. Got on my tip toes peeked out the window in the bathroom to see DS riding along with the deck up. Just taking it for a spin around the yard! Hope your son had fun!!

Don't you love them moments when your kid is being like other kids and overcoming limitations. Now you have to wait for him to take the car for a spin.
big hugs :woohoo:
