Just Joined DVC! One Quick Question...

Hello! We are two Disney fans from Ohio who just joined DVC this week with 250 points. We were engaged at WDW, had a Disney themed wedding, and honeymooned at GF/DCL in 2001 so it just seemed like a really easy decision... probably the quickest and easiest "sell" our Guide has had!

Our home is BCV, use year is December, and we are taking advantage of the MB program.

We have planned a trip in January '04, and hope for another one in September 2004, with six adults (including my parents) How realistic our the chances of getting a GV at OKW in the 7 month window? Anyone been in this situation? We were hoping to stay Sun-Th to minimize the use of points.

Should I try to trade points/reservations with a OKW member? Or should I go ahead and get a studio/2 bedroom reservation at the 11 month window for BCV, then cancel it if I can get the GV at OKW at the 7 month window?

Any advice from some of you long time DVC members would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Dan & Kim

I would certainly make the 2BR/Studio reservation at BCV right away. You can also try, on the Rent/Trade Board, to find an OKW member who could make the GV reservation for you ASAP. It's already past the 11 month window for next January, so you're behind a little there too.

If you are unable to find an owner able to help, you will have an alternative at BCV and can still try the waitlist in June if there is nothing available when you first call.

Good Luck- either way, you'll have a great place to stay.

Enjoy!

Another thing you can try rather than wait for the 7 month window to open up at OKW is to book at BCV and then transfer the ressie to OKW at the 7 month window. Be careful though because the room points are higher at BCV, so you don't want to have any cancellation penalties/borwed point issues in doing that. But if you KNOW you are going at least you guarantee you have a place to stay, and when the 7 month window rolls in you can stay at the resort of your choice.

January is one of the easier times to get a GV. You may even luck out and get one at the seven mnth window. I still think that trading or renting points from a DVC member would be your surest bet.

Thanks for all the Welcomes!

Actually I meant we needed the GV only for September 2004... January 2004 will be just us two in a studio or 1 BR at BCV...

Thanks for the tips!

Welcome home! Not sure how busy the GVs are for September, but I would try to reserve a 2 bedroom plus studio first, and then try to trade at the 7 month window. Perhaps you can find an OKW owner who has been dieing to stay at BCV and will trade ressies with you.
