To avoid confusion, this post is not about rumors of any sort but an invitation to imagine what could replace the Buzz Lightyear attraction if it one day became outdated or lost popularity. The name of my version for a potential replacement is called Tomorrowland Air Force.
The adventure begins at the Tomorrowland Air Force Base. Tomorrowland has just been invaded by the military of an evil interplanetary superpower and the guests become new recruits of the TAF to help fight off the aggressors. The new pilots head to the launch bay where they board their fighter jets and are launched into combat. Flying high above Tomorrowland, the guests engage combat vehicles and fighting robots of the invading military by aiming at round targets with the insignia of the evil superpower. Next, the new recruits fly towards the outskirts of Tomorrowland at a battlefront to help stop the advance of more enemy units from charging into the city. A large battleship is found parked on the other side of the warzone. The TAF stratagizes that capturing the battleship will force the invaders to retreat. After breaking into the ship, the guests are detected by the leader of the invasion who orders the soilders and security guards to kill or capture the trespassers. On the left side of a corridor, prisoners from Tomorrowland are found being carried in locked cages on a conveyer belt towards their doom to a furnace robot. The guests save the prisoners by either shooting the robot or blasting the prisoners off the conveyer belt to safety. On the right side of the corridor, the invading military leader powers up a weapon designed to decimate the entire city of Tomorrowland. The guests fire at the weapon weakening its destructive capability. The battleship falls into the hands of the TAF and the enemy military retreats from battle, but the leader manages to escape into space onboard a combat evacuation pod. The TAF fighter jets don't have the capability to fly beyond Earth's atmosphere alone, so the guests enter into the battleship's space launching tube to get blasted into space for a final showdown against the invasion's mastermind. The new recruits chase and attack the leader while zooming past stars and planets. The leader counterattacks the pursuers mocking them at the same time. The leader's combat evacuation pod finally becomes severley damaged and is hurled back above the Earth. The armada of the TAF assists the guests to help finish off the leader's pod to prepare for capture. With the leader now a prisoner of the TAF, the guests head back to Tomorrowland where they land and parade past a crowd of happy and overjoyed Tomorrowland citizens. They thank the new heroes for saving their city and wish them luck. Inside a cage surrounded by the crowd of citizens, an angry evil leader curses the guests and vows for revenge. Upon exiting their fighter jets, the guests pass a status board allowing them to review their score they earned throughout the adventure.
One final note, the TAF is a tribute to the previous rides If You Had Wings and Dreamflight which once occupied the WDW attraction building before Buzz Lightyear.
