Just how scary is the Haunted Mansion

I agree with everyone. It depends on the child. I have always loved the haunted mansion since i was very young. But my brother on the other hand was afraid of it. Since baby swapping really wasnt around when me and my brother were young my parents would make him ride. Now we arent like those other crazies, he wasnt kicking and screaming and throwing a fit, my parents would not do that. He was just nervous and didnt like that it was dark. So instead we would tell him to be a Ghostbuster! :rotfl:

But yeah I dont think the ride is scary at all. I think the only part that is "scary" is the scene where the heads pop out of the graveyard. It gets me everytime. And if one child doesnt want to ride but the other children do, you can baby/child swap. Just mention it to the CM and they will help you out.

Thanks for all the reply's! I feel much better about it now- good idea about telling them what to expect. The dark, the noises. We found Haunted Mansion on live.365 and they've been listening to that- I think it's more the unknown that is scary, not the ride itself.

This message board is great! :grouphug:

That reminds me -
Go to this site
http://www.doombuggies.com/
They have long sound clips from the ride (which of course sound a little spooky) and it might be a great way to prepare them for the sounds they will hear. It also has some neat images from the ride (http://www.doombuggies.com/secrets.htm) here.

Hope this helps!

well that wasn't very nice. I was actually debating the same question from the OP. Are we not allowed to ask questions? Some of us are not disney pros like you yet, but when I get back from my trip in September and someone asks a question like this one, I will make sure I help them out and not say..."if you have to ask, it is too scary"

Other than that...have a good day!!! :wave2:

I thought the same thing! what gives? :confused3 oh well. sometimes we just need a little info. ask questions always! :earboy2:

The ghosts poping up in the graveyard scared me the first few times I rode it because they are so close to your doombuggie!! I love this ride. I don't know what scares your children though, it's kinda a personal preference but I don't think that there is anything terrifying!!

To me, it wasn't scary. When I went as a kid, it wasn't scary. But I've seen kids that are terrified of it. They'll ride ToT and stuff like that but the Haunted Mansion freaks them out. I don't think it was designed to be especially frightening.

My only suggestion is to point out all the "popping heads" from behind gravestones in the graveyard before the "jump" up, for the 6 year old. That's the only "jumpy" thing.

N.E.D.

I took all three of my kids on the Haunted Mansion (ages 1, 7 and 11 at the time) and they all did great. The only part that we really worried about was the intro, but Daddy was holding DD so she was fine. After that it was all laughs and smiles.

My 3 1/2 grandson called the shrinking room the escalator room. He loves escalators. Then I told him we would play a game the room would get dark and we would all have to to scream to make the lights come back on. He loved it. He did scream and was very proud he made the lights come back on.
Also he loved the ghost sitting in Grammy's lap. :goodvibes

The part that is scary for me is the bride with the heart bounding....... it reminds me of Edgar Allan Poe......
oooo, me too! That part gets MY heart pounding.

The ride is great! I love it and I am proably the biggest scardy cat! The ride is acually supposed to be half scary and half silly. (Walt Disney could not decide whether he wanted it scary or silly so he made it both) Once you enter the graveyard it is all supposed to be silly from there. Just as a tip, if your kids a afraid of death, don't let them look up in the streching room when the scream is heard. It isn't scary or anything, just a little freaky for young kids to see. When I was little (Like 2nd grade little- When I looked up I though something total oppiste of what it acually was supposed to be, so maybe your kids will just find it confusing other than freaky, if that helps at all.) Make the most of the ride. Look all around you. The Haunted Mansion is just filled with little surprises. When you see the piano keys moving, look at the ground! notice the crow. You will see him often. Notice the clock! Just try to find little things like that because there are so many hidden secrets that add to the ride (almost like symbolism in a novel Disney style!!)

Go for it. Your kids will adore it!!
