Just how much Disney magic?

My DH is afraid that the resorts may be just too much Disney magic after being at the parks all day and would prefer to stay off site. Last thing I want is for him to get Disneyed out but I think in the long run it will be cheaper to stay at Pop than off site.

So just how Disney is the resorts? Are they as much as the parks or more subdued?

We stayed at Caribbean beach resort and the rooms had the slightest touches of finding Nemo. If you weren't looking for it you wouldn't really notice.

In my opinion, the resorts really have very little direct tie-in to the parks. However, "Disneyed out" could also mean being sick and tired of fighting crowds. If you're staying in a Value then this could be an issue and staying off-site might give you some relief from that. If it's a moderate/deluxe/DVC then you can usually feel that you're away from the crowds(and the parks) at these resorts.

We try to get a room away from the action at pop and we are fine. No pool view and no preferred. Some of the preferred rooms are still quite.

I think the Values have more of the "Disney magic" than the mods & deluxes. I stayed at CBR last month and my only complaint about it was that I barely even felt like I was at a Disney hotel, lol. I wanted more of the in-your-face Disney feel.

And yes, the Values have big, in-your-face icons. not so much in the rooms itself though.

We stay in the Values because it's much cheaper than anywhere else. Free ME and free dining always works out to be the better deal.

What kind of hotels and resorts do you usually stay in? How many will be in the room? Do you mind double beds or are you used to something bigger?

If the values don't meet the comfort you are used to, then the "magic" could be a dud.

How about staying at the Swan or Dolphin? Neither are operated by Disney and you get a deluxe level resort often at moderate or better prices. Plus, you're right in the middle of the magic without having Mickey around you 24/7.

Not sure what price range your looking for or what kind of room or size family you have, but.... you could stay at the fort(fort wilderness) in a cabin. they sleep up to 6 and have a kitchen. the campground is very parklike and quiet. you really feel removed from the hustle and bustle of the parks. if you have your own car, you can park right at your cabin.

I think to make everyone happy....since this is everyones trip, we'll do a split stay. 1/2 at Pop and 1/2 off site. That way DS and I can "live" Disney, and DH can have some time off from the magic.

Don't get me wrong DH is very excited about going. But I do understand his need about getting away from it all after awhile.

And since this is our first trip (and hopefully the first of many), I need to make sure I keep him on board. KWIM?

And for the person who asked, we normally stay in cheaper hotels. We aren't opposed at all to a 2 star as long as it is clean. Our only requirement of a hotel is that it is clean, doesn't smell and is in a safe neighborhood.

Compromise is always a good route, but, and someone correct me if I am wrong because I haven't stayed at POP in a couple of years, IIRC a lot of their decorations aren't disney related right? I mean not as much as the other values at least.

Since this is your first trip to WDW, I would really recommend staying onsite. I would suggest heading over to allears.net and checking out the photos of the various resorts. I don't think you're going to OD on the Disney magic at any resort onsite.
I love Pop....it is my favorite value resort. If you decide on Pop, I would recommend asking for a room facing the rear of the resort. I loved bldg 4, 4th floor. I face the lake. Now, that means facing AoA now.

But in all reality, there isn't all that much 'theming' that anyone would find over the top in the rooms.

When we stay on property (usually Pop) - we feel so "connected" to Disney.

Off property can't give you that "let's run back to the resort" ability, nor can it give you Extra Magic Hours.

We feel more that we have BEEN TO DISNEY WORLD by staying at a Value or Mod. The cost averages out to about the same - off property might win by about $10 - $20 a night. But - I think we make that up with the drink mugs at the resorts. It gets hot in FL - and we seem to use the mugs a lot.

On property definitely gets our vote.

We love POP because it just 'pops' kwim??? We did stay at POR in a room in Alligator Bayou & it was a beautiful room but didn't feel at all 'Disneylike' to us. I remember thinking it was more of a serene adult feel, so maybe that would be a good room for you.

same thing with CBR. You'll for sure feel like you're at a resort in the Caribbean - just not necessarily a Disney one.

Agreeing. The moderate resorts have a much more relaxed and quiet atmosphere than the value resorts.
