Just how many cliques threads do we need?

Thing is - sometimes we get moved here. The 'clique' thread Im on, started over on the resort boards.... And was actually more HELPFUL there, cuz when people were booking, or planning a trip, we'd be able to answer TONS of questions, and did.

I don't think cliques need to be moved to another forum, particularly if it's a resort related one.

I would be perfectly ok with ONE thread per clique provided that any inside jokes and clique related chat stays on that thread. Some groups are really good about doing that, but others not so much.
Really I don't see why some cliques don't just have their own private board. There are other groups of friends that met on the DIS that seem to have done fine without a clique thread of their own.

Well, I posted last on p. 8, and it was on topic to that point. It was on topic on p. 11 and here. So it was off topic for two pages, maybe 2 and 1/2. Out of 12 pages. I call that a bit of fun late at night. It's been taken right back on topic now, as soon as someone wanted to talk about it again. Isn't that just the natural ebb and flow of regular conversation? Have you ever been to a dinner party where everyone stayed on one topic for the entire evening? Even if it's an important topic it can go off track and then come back to it. No big thing, no we are right back to how clique threads do whatever they do that is so wrong. Which I think has already been discussed to death and was actually coming to its natural conclusion.

Basically, some are slow to warm up which can seem exclusionary if you aren't a bit persistent, that is because they've been burned before. If you simply hang around, they will get to know you. Some are welcoming off the bat. If you don't want to go, then don't.

If you don't like seeing off-topic posts by the same posters, stick 'em all on ignore. That's pretty easy. You'll see the on topic stuff. But generally by the time that happens, whatever is going to be said on the topic has already been said and the topic is over. Just like at a dinner party. Let go and move on.

Well said.

I am still waiting for the examples of inside jokes that hijacked this thread? :confused3

Like I said pages ago, I saw jokes about other threads about microwaves, etc, but no "inside" jokes. Certianly not to the degree of hijacking.

So what it boils down to, again like I said pages ago, all it takes is people from clique threads posting outside their clique thread, to be considered hijacking.

So what is it 3, 4, 7 clique posters posting on a thread is a hijack? OR does it only take 1?

But if you know the OP doesn't like it, why do it? That's just rude.

The fact that the OP of this thread was actually viewed by some as a challenge???? Along with the fact that the hijackers actually acknowledged the inevitability of their jokes and banter in this thread-- that's just the most immature thing ever. I'm sorry, but it seems some people aren't emotionally past middle school.

I think if people are continually referring to running jokes from their clique threads, that's an inside joke. I'm a pretty smart person, but I personally had no clue what anyone was talking about for a while there. It was just pointless.

For those of you that think "clique threads" should have their own forum....
when exactly does a thread become a "clique thread?" Would it be determined by the number of posts, the number of people that regularly post there or maybe is it one that veers OT? I'm curious to know what people think. Would mods be more lenient of what is said on threads if they had their own forum?
I've been seeing you on every thread I read this morning. Should we report each other for stalking? or for starting a new clique? :rotfl2:
you 2 seem to get around!

Seriously, I do see a difference between a lot of members of a mega thread posting on a different thread and them truly hijacking it. Everyone should feel free to post wherever they want to post, however, taking an on-topic thread off topic just for the fun of it is rude, especially one that is still on topic. It's different posting on a thread that is more silly to begin with. And I haven't seen the hijackings as much as I used to see them.

Of course posting here could be considered a hijacking, however when it's predicted in the first post that almost seems like a challenge.
and you are always up to a good challenge, aren't you? ;)
I'm not sure exactly what OP expected to have happen with this thread. How much exactly can you discuss it?

I am quite certain that some "cliques" do have their own private boards.

- continuous references to things discussed in clique threads but not elsewhere are considered inside jokes.

- Page 11 was not completely on topic. I really am not about to go through the thread and count how many hijacked posts there were, but I do know of at least a couple of clique posts on pg 11 because that's where I first checked on this thread!

- you can be a member of a clique, post on a topic along with other clique members, and not be considered a hijacker.

Are people really so obtuse to not see the difference between fellow clique members posting on a regular thread and a hijack? I mean seriously- COME ON! If you're going to do it, at least cop to it.

I know for a fact they do. Which is why I fail to understand why they need a CB clique thread and their own board? There are other groups of friends that met here on the DIS that have no clique thread of their own and feel no need to have one because they have their own board.

I agree. The closest I've seen is asking why it's a problem it's for only a couple hours late at night. Seriously? It's OK because it's late at night?

People have been asked to stop. How hard of a request is that to agree to? Is hijakcing an addiction or something?

I'm sorry, but just because you didn't understand, doesn't make it an "inside joke". The references made here since yesterday were about short, lame threads that started here on several different subjects. Because you didn't read them, does not automatically mean it came from a "clique" thread. There are hundreds of threads here on a daily basis that I don't read. If a reference is made to one of them on a thread I DO read, should I just assume it's because it's an inside joke? This a community board. That means EVERYONE can have a say. I'm sorry you find it immature, junior highish, immoral, lacking substance or whatever. Perhaps, if you want dinner party subjects that are so serious that no one dare introduce varying opinions and stay completely on topic, you should
1. have a dinner party where you can control the topic of conversation or
2. go start YOUR own private board where you can take the lead.

I'm sorry, but all I'm hearing is a bunch of moaning and whining from a select few here who obviously need to go up a size in panties, cause the one's you're wearing seem to be getting a bit tight.

Er, am I at a dinner party? :confused3 I'm sorry, but I thought this was a message board, which is kinda sorta TOTALLY different than a dinner party.

My mistake.

Exactly...thank you for making my point. You are on a COMMUNITY message board, which means sometimes you go with the flow. It may get on your nerves that things don't run as smoothly as you would like, but those are the breaks when it's not your party.

But it was the OP's party and it was pretty damn rude for people to take it over when she specifically posted about how it upset her when that happened.

I think you believe you're making a point, but I'm not really sure what it is. It seems to me that you want a board that's a free for all and where the phrase "off topic" doesn't exist.

In which case, I think *you're* in the wrong place, and maybe you should go start your own board.

Because I do think there are some rules on the Dis somewhere about staying on topic. Even though it doesn't seem like it at times. ;)

Not only that, but everyone seems to be sidestepping the point that several people ASKED for the hijacking to stop, and it didn't.

Actually, its a public board, so she's a guest at the party.

I've come to the conclusion that you like to fight for the sake of fighting. And FWIW, I am on several different private boards....thanks. My only point is, that since it is a community board not owned by you or the OP, you can bellyache but you really have no control. It may be rude to you, it's banter to others that is harmless. If the OP got on here talking about a family member dying and it was taken over, yes, I would find that incredibly rude. But with most topics, it's light conversation....and just like in real life, sometimes that conversation takes turns. Its the natural flow.
Now I'm off to talk to my private board friends who would be offended if we actually stayed on topic. :rotfl: Have fun fighting amongst yourselves. I'm done, because just like the subject of making a cake in the microwave in your value room, you only want to hear from people who agree with you. You have no interests in other peoples view points and can't have an open mind as to what PUBLIC and COMMUNITY really mean. :sad1:

Actually, its a public board, so she's a guest at the party.

When mods have posted on this board requesting people to report examples of hijacking so it can be nipped in the bud, that indicates to me that hijacking is something the host and hostesses do not want to occur.

Seems to be that you are taking complaints WAY too personally and have really bordered on personal attack. And bully for you about your private boards and their topic restrictions, but thanks for the YAGE. As far as not caring about other viewpoints, you might want to re-read your posts. You don't seem to care if actions like hijacking are restricting the fun of others so long as you can do what you want. Even though such behavior has been asked to be cut back upon by the people in charge of this board.

Once again, I didn't see any running jokes from a clique thread. You and others have referenced the rudeness and hijacking of these inside clique jokes, I have asked now 3 times for an example.....:confused3

Please point them out.

I saw jokes about microwaves in room, refillable mugs, etc, that were other threads on the CB. Nothing form clique threads though. Even if there were one or 2, certainly not enough to qualify as a hijack. JMHO.

It seems to me that the majority of those who have no problem with thread hijacking are either guilty of it, or buddies with the most frequent culprits.
