so here is the deal...spring break the week before easter(feb. 12-20)...have been to disney in the summer(but usually in sept, oct, and dec.)...i really don't think the crowds bothered me in the summer as much as the heat did..lines were never more than 20minutes long maximum....we usually hit the EE park and outta there by 1 or 2pm for afternoon swim/nap, then usually fantasmic, epcot/fireworks, or downtown disney at nite(might ride the rides that don't have lines typically at nite)

SSSOOOOOO!!!!! is it really that much worse? i don't want to wait an hour to ride something. is blizzard beach a nightmare? how bout universal studios/IOA and Sea world, is it that awful?

please tell me the truth. your experiences good and bad. i am a realist so lay it on the line brother!

We went last spring break and would probably never go at this time again. It was nuts. Every ride had a wait. The rides like peter pan had at least a 2 hour wait and were out of fast passes.
We waited at least 1 1/2 - 2 hours for haunted mansion and splash mountain. If you are taken young children and want a relaxing trip, I would not recommend spring break.

#1 -- Having been the week between Christmas and New Year -- 2 hour waits, no fastpasses, lining up 1 hour or more for a parade -- how does that compare to the 12th to the 20th?

#2 How about the week even before that -- 5th through the 11th?

Just wondering what I should be prepared for, thanks!!

What do you think the crowds will be like March 19-23rd. How long will the waits be? We went April 1st a few years ago and it wasn't bad at all. What should I be prepared for this time?

Micles,

What time would you usually enter the parks? If it was at the opening time, were the long waits immediate?

Went over Spring Break 2000 the middle of March and thought that the crowds were not bad at all, comparable to 1st week of June.

When you say "feb. 12 to 20" I assume you mean April 12 to 20 which takes you to Easter Sunday. The Easter crowds begin to set in the weekend before Easter and hit full force by Monday to Tuesday before, and then last until the Friday after Easter with some relief coming the Saturday after and by the Sunday after you are back to normal "spring break" crowds. As to those two weeks surrounding Easter:

1. You mentioned going before in summer. If that was the July 4 week, it approaches the Easter crowd. If it was another week, then the crowd you saw then would feel like a very light off season crowd in comparison to Easter. Same comparison to Easter for spring break weeks other those two Easter weeks (for the question about March 19 to 23 above, unless you have been at Easter and know how bad it can actually get, that time will feel quite crowded, which it is, but still quite manageable).

2. Those two Easter weeks are very comparable to Christmas week for the poster who asked above. Popular rides get 90 minute to 2 1/2 hour lines all day and evening with some relief only during parades. Test Track goes to 3 hours. Even Swiss Family Treehouse, the worst of the worst, gets an hour line much of the day. Walking at noon becomes difficult at MK as people are essentially elbow to elbow on the streets. You do get long hours like at Christmas. Easter has a slight advantage over Christmas because some of the park crowd is siphoned off by heavy attendance at the waterparks. Use fastpass to extent possible but even those run out for the day before noon for popular rides.

3. The waterparks tend to fill to capacity by 11:30 (and then open up again about 2:30). Those are also extremely crowded. Biggest problem is that the earliest arrivals seize all the chairs and chairs are near impossible to get by 11.

4. People actually start seizing front curb and other ideal viewing spots for the afternoon MK parade 2 hours before it begins. (Best is just to wait until close to start and find an elevated area off the front, like the stairs and porch at Town Hall).

5. Early entry can change during those weeks depending on expected crowds as they sometimes go to a system where they just open all the parks an hour early every day (whether they will do so is not determined until the time arrives and thus you should check for actual opening times when you get there).

6. PS's for dinner should be considered necessary particularly for park restaurants; many actually have no seating times available in the evening at all unless you have a PS and others will have 2 hour or longer wait without PS. Make PS's even for resort restaurants although you can usually still get most of those for something somewhat close to your desired time by calling the day before.

7. If you hit a park as early as allowed you can often get on a number of things without much trouble for about the first 45 minutes. Also, at Epcot and MGM, attractions other than Test Track, RnR, Tower of Terror, and Mermaid, can have fairly short lines after 3. Even at MK, rides like Pirates, Haunted Mansion, and some others can have short lines between 4 and 8 (people break for dinner and by 8 the full crowd returns to MK). Animal Kingdom will literally feel like a zoo all day but late afternoon you can get lucky and find some shorter lines. Most crowded times at any of the parks are about 10:30 to 3 (4 at MK). MK is the most crowded the entire time and it is even worse than that on Easter Sunday (and day before and day after Easter approach that Sunday crowd which often goes to capacity). The other parks tend to have their lighest (but still crowded) days of the week on Easter Sunday and day before.

6. Usually they have two Fantasmics at night (although budget cuts may affect that this year like last). For the first one, you need to get in line at least an hour early to assure getting a seat; for the second one you can walk in just before it starts as it never fills.

7. Universal and Sea World also get extremely crowded although they seem to have a somewhat longer (almost two hour) early morning safe period before the huge crowds set in.

Drusba,

I am from Massachusetts and we are fortunate to have our spring break around Patriot's day. Patriot's day is always the 3rd monday in April and we can usually avoid Easter, but unfortunately we will be right in the middle of Easter this year. Which means that the parks will be even worst with most of New England attending when we are normally not there.

I liked a lot of your suggestions. Do you think it is almost worth it to leave the parks during peak times and return later in the day? Also, knowing that the parks would be crazy, we opted this year to split the vacation and go to Vero Beach. Do you know if Vero Beach is just as crazy?

We were there the week before Easter 2001- our first trip as a family. It was extremely hot (record setting heat that week) and very crowded. We were staying off site so we did not have the advantage of EE or e-night. We followed the advice of this board and of the guide books and got to the parks early. Did the rides that were on our A list. We would split up - DD and I would get in a line while DH went to get us a FP for something else. Although it was crowded we didn't wait more than 20 minutes to ride anything. If there was a long wait for something we just skipped it and went on to something else. With planning the crowds can be managable. Just keep in mind that you might not be able to do everything in the park.

Oh how things have changed when we were kids we always went to MK on Easter Sunday then it was the slowest day of the year! I guess I'm showing my age!

Are we taking about Feb break or April break? Our schools have a week off in Feb and April. We are thinking of going in Feb next year and I am wondering if it is busy 2/14-2/23? It seems like most people are talking about April break here. The original poster of this question mentioned Feb crowds.

we were ther last april, and the drowdswere awful!!!!!!!!
the water parks were fulland not lettinganyone else in after 10:30-11:00 unless you were staying on disney property.the parks were the same way, UNREAL:o
misty:eek:

As to what we were covering here, I assumed it was Easter as first poster mentions "feb" but is specifically asking about week before "Easter" (reference to Feb is likely a typo). February, during the week in which Presidents' Day falls, is always very crowded with long lines and waits; but nothing anywhere near as bad as Easter.

In response to dbkelly: I cannot speak for Vero during Easter as I have not been there then. Have been to a number of coastal areas in Florida during that time and it was never too bad -- crowds and lots of traffic but nothing unmanageable; you never have everyone going to the same place you are like you do with the parks at WDW. Leaving WDW parks during super-peak times of day, 11 to 3, during Easter time is a decent idea -- we have literally just walked out of MK and AK at 11:30 during that time because we could not get on anything, and I mean anything (even AK stage shows were impossible to get into), without a forever wait and streets were so full that moving about was itself a real chore. Nevertheless, when you come back later there will still be huge crowds, just not as completely impossible as it is during those super-peak times. Epcot though has possibilities during those peak late morning to afternoon hours as it is still easy to get around (sidewalk/walking areas are huge) and sometimes possible to do Living Seas (just watch the fish), Spaceship Earth, and Energy during those times (since those are the closest to the entrance they have huge, huge lines in the morning but that tapers off quite a bit by early afternoon as everybody is moving elsewhere) and if nothing else you can go up to the Nations which has fairly light crowds at that time of day; for example, you can do American Adventure, and the Canada, China, and France movies that time of day with fairly small crowds. For MGM, if you want to see any of the stage shows (Beauty and formerly Hunchback), you have to be there that time of day as they are not shown late or very early (note, for those shows you need to show up 50 minutes or more early to get a any kind of decent seat). Also, you can sometimes get into Indiana Jones without a huge problem simply because it holds so many people.

Drusba,

Thank you for the info. Can you also help me with my itinerary. We will be arriving Friday the 18th around noon and leaving sometime on Tuesday for Vero Beach. When and how would you do each park? We were thinking of the following:

Friday - MGM all day
Saturday - Epcot all day and MK @ night
Sunday - Typhoon Lagoon all day (Hotel @ night)
Monday - MK all day & night
Tuesday - AK all day or until we decide to head to Vero.

Would you change this order? My family are big fans of MK and Typhoon, so that is why we do not have much time allocated to the other parks.

Thank you once again for all your help!

D. B. Kelly
