Just home from 6 days at HHI (love that resort). First the good: 2 words-CAST MEMBERS. Everyone was so incredibly nice and friendly-I think they're all sprinkled with pixie dust, or does Disney put something in their water. The bad: the weather-most days highs were in the 40's, rain, wind, just awful! The ugly: standing on the porch of the lodge, looking out over the parking lot thru the rain, watching the wind whip the palm trees, it was really an ugly sight! Comments-just 2 offhand. First, there seemed to be more of those little stands trying to promote timeshares at resturaunts than I remember last year, even though it was a slow time for tourism (February). Also, I was really surprised at meeting a couple of DVC members who, when I told them we'd be in WDW the week of Member's Homecoming, didn't know what (or when) Member's Homecoming was. And they'd already told me they were members. I'd be happy to answer any questions-resort, resturaunts, golf DH did, activities we did, etc. Ask away!

Hi,

Glad you had a good time!!!! Sorry it rained though!!!

Sounds like it would have been a perfect trip if it weren't for all of the rain. :(

I have not been to Hilton Head...how are the rooms and the rest of the resort complex?

Thanks! :bounce:

You have my sympathy on the bad weather. We love HH, but we spent our Aug. stay, two years ago, in a rain soaked week. As all the locals pointed out, they really needed the rain, but did it have to come all at once during our one week. It was so bad that we had to be taken via golf cart, to our car, on the day we left. A resort like HH thrives on good weather. Surprisingly, DSs didn't really mind the bad weather as much as DH & I did. We were in a 2 BD, they each had a TV, we had a lap top computer with games & basically, they got to veg out.

Castmembers are the BEST at HH!
So, what did ya do?
What villa did you have?
What restaurants did you eat at and how did you like them?
Where did hubby golf?
And what other activities did you do? <grin>

Simba's Mom,
I hope you were able to enjoy your vacation even with all the rain. Did you hit any good restaurants? I hope your DH was able to get a round or two in?? My DH is heading down there on Monday for his 3 night guy golf outing. It looks like he will have better weather. I think your conditions would have bummed him out.

Resturaunts: We went to Guisseppe's the first night. It was OK, nothing special, but what amazed me was the number of people waiting for seating when we left at 6:45. And this is February! Wonder what it's like in the summer! We tried to go to Scott's Fish Market on Sunday, but it was closed. Later we learned that Sundays they're closed. So we went to the Kingfisher-OK food, very good service, but the timeshare sales at the door was a little distracting. Monday went to Hofsbrau for German food. Excellent food, but server had a thick accent and didn't speak nor understand English well. Think that's why she got our order wrong. But she was so nice about it. And I'm 51 yo-anyplace that makes me feel young has my vote-as soon as I walked in, I realized I was the youngest one there. So I automatically like this place. And when we left at 7:30, practically no one was there-everyone else had already left. Felt like a "spring chicken"-partying out late! Tuesday we went to Captain's Seafood, my all-time favorite on HHI. My kind of place-every table has its own roll of paper towels. A real family place, and like Hofsbrau, it appears to be popular with the locals. As usual, my fish was great, but it's not fancy.
Golf: DH played at Shipyard, which he liked, and at Indigo Run, which he didn't. He felt like an outsider, an intruder at Indigo Run, where no other golf course has given him that feeling. Maybe it was a bad day there, but with so many courses on HHI, he talked to the CMs at HHI, and decided to try the Arthur Hills course and the Robert Trent Jones course, both at Palmetto Dunes, next year. He'd really welcome any comments about any of the courses-good or bad.
Our Villa: We stayed in 1221, nice for my evening walk to Big Murgie's Den to sink into a couch for a while with my Nora Roberts book. Last year we stayed in the Main Lodge, then one night in Building 28. Maybe because of the rain, but I loved the convenience of 1221-I could get to the lobby without getting too wet or cold. Every afternoon I'd go there for my hot apple cider and cookies (they appeared home-made).

I feel the same about Guisseppe's...okay but noting special. I will have to try the german place...I am 51 also and I need a dose of feeling younger! Hope they still have the cookies with the dried cranberries..they are delicious! Thanks for writing.:earsgirl:

Shadow-yes, I got to see her and that was a big deal for me since I didn't see her last year and DH tried to tell me that she doesn't really exist (that non-believer!). Took pictures of her with B'leu Crabbe (?) to prove her existence.
And about the cookies-when I was there at least, they had those cranberry ones, along with chocolate chip. The chocolate chip tended to go first, so it was easy to get the cranberry ones-at times they were all that were available.

Simba's Mom: You "Lucky Dog". We have only been to HHI one time and didn't get to see the elusive Shadow. We have non-believers in our clan too.

We love Captain's Seafood, too. The only place that is better would be my mom's fried seafood. Oh except the She Crab Soup. That is reserved for the Pavilion Restaurant at Edisto Beach.

I'll bite - who's/what's shadow? We're going in November for the first time and I'm already taking notes of things to do and places to eat.

Shadow is a dog. Her dog house greets you as you enter the lodge. I thought there was no real dog also till I saw the pics. She's beautiful. The kind of dog you see and just want to hug.

We are going to HHI this Saturday for a long weekend for the first time.

Is it better to stay in the lodge, or elsewhere the first time?
We are in a studio. We like quiet more than to be near the action, however like the convenience of being closer to everything. Any suggestions.

We will be going with kids 8 and 5. Any activities we shouldn't miss?

We are hoping the weather will be in the 60's. Would the kids still be able to swim in the pool?

Anything else we need to know?

Thanks for your help!

We stayed in a studio in Building 28 once, and we've stayed in the Lodge. I much prefer the Lodge. One of the reasons is the quiet! The balcony in Building 28 faced other buildings and the walkway. Although there were lots of trees, the noise from the other buildings traveled when you were on the balcony. I felt the balconies in the Lodge were much quieter (although I was on the 2nd and 3rd floor vs. first floor in Building 28). Can't beat the convenience. And although DH is a light sleeper, he agreed that the lodge was as quiet at night.

Simba's Mom, thanks! I'll try to get the Lodge. It sounds right for us.
It looks as if the weather might co-operate. DD and DS are really looking forward to HHI!
Thanks again :D
