The Today Show was doing a piece on the royal couple making a trip to Califormia and how the last time he was there was when he was 11 and Princess Di took the boys to Disneyworld.

No wonder people are confused if the mainstream media can't get it right............

I didn't see that but I would hope they meant that he hasn't been to the US since he was 11.....or, whoever said it has never been themselves and needs therapy - LOL!

I am such a stickler that I won't even refer to the FL resort it as anything but Walt Disney World, or when writing it, WDW. I'm picky about getting the names just right, let alone the locations.

But I agree, how can the mainstream media confuse the location of the two? To them it may seem like a minor detail, but it's anything but.

It is understandable. We're all super fans, but for most people the two names are pretty interchangeable. I remember as a kid I never knew the difference, I mean I knew that Disney was in Cali and FL, but I couldn't tell the difference.

It wasn't until I was in my 20's that I knew the difference myself, and I have been there a few times!

Another thing that drives me bonkers is when people refer to the Magic Kingdom at WDW at "Disney"

For example:

Me: Oh you are going to Disney World for your vacation? What are your plans?

Them: Well, the first day we are going to Epcot, and then we are going to do the next day at Disney.

Don't get me started on people who are going to MGM.

I pity those people. I just want to put my arm around them, walk with them and say "I think you and I should have a little talk.". ;)

Have you ever noticed that people from the eastern part of the country, when planning a trip to WDW say "we're going to Disney", whereas people from the West Coast when planning a trip to their nearest resort will always say "we're going to Disneyland", without assigning a nickname or abbreviation.

When my DS and I first went to the World (I had not even heard of the disboards site at that time, unfortunately), I made a similar mistake. I went up to the desk, we were staying at ASM, and asked the directions to Disney World. The CM gave me a look and said, "You're at Disney World." After fumbling over a few words, I finally got him to understand that I meant MK.

I was watching the Today show too but I thought she said the last time we saw Prince William in the United States was when Princess Diana took them to Disney World. I don't think she said California, but I could be wrong.

Yes! This one drives me crazy! I can't believe how many people say this though.

My one friend can't remember the name Epcot for anything. She calls it "the one with the giant golfball."

My mistake, I thought I heard the last time they were in California, but you are right, the newscaster said in the United States. Sorry.:rolleyes1

This.

OP heard wrong. I watched this AM too and the report said last time William and Harry were seen in the United States it was with their mother at WDW.

Interesting that they say the last time they were seen here, because truthfully they've probably been here since then, but the public just didn't know about it.

It' still and always will be MGM to me.

And I know that they changed the name to the Tomorrowland Transit Authority, but it will always be the WEDWay People Mover to me.

I still call it MGM Studios too :) If giving people Disney advice I use the correct name in order not to confuse them though.

See, I just circumvent all that by just calling it "The Studios". Everyone seems to know what I'm talking about...

Sayhello

Kevin knows the love of the WEDway Peoplemover!!!

I love you, Man!!!!

PS........My parents still say MGM.

My favorite is when people want to know about O'Hanas. Ok genius, please tell me exactly how an Irish eatery would fit with the theme of the Polynesian resort?!?!?!

My ears perked up too when I heard the story this morning. I also thought they said "California" and my DW thought they just said "United States".

To add to the list of pet peeves...
I cringe when I hear people say "Disney's Land" or "Disney's World".

That one drives me nuts too! Just move that little apostrophe a tad to the left please. ;) It's 'Ohana.

I haven't heard that one yet- but I am sure I would cringe as well.
