Our local radio station, had an advert, for a airline that operates in the winter from Glasgow.

Florida Air, DH and i have looked at the website, and we think the prices are quite good, £149 plus taxes each way, or some prices showed business class 330 mark plus taxes each way.

Thought we would let the diser's know.

Just wish Newcastle would get this service.

That’s pretty good, but you don’t land in Orlando International so won’t be able to use the Disney Magical Express and as your staying on site it might work out cheaper to go with another Airline that’s not to much more expensive.

I booked via Travelocity and it’s a flight with Iceland Air, you stop off in Iceland but it’s actually pretty cool stop over as you get to go to the Blue Lagoon for free, they take you from the Airport to Blue Lagoon and back all at no cost to you. Only operates on the Glasgow to US flights. Little things like this that can add to the holiday that might make paying a couple of quid more or taking an hour or 2 longer to get to the destination that can make the difference.

Price I paid was £351.60 per Adult (return including all taxes) and £271.60 per Child (again return including all taxes).

On Your Florida Air it looks like you pay £306.90 (plus £15 membership fee) regardless if Adult or Child and you need to transport yourself to Disney so that will cost a bit more. Also I check what food and drinks you get on board as economy customer, most flights are pretty rubbish for food but Iceland normally have some tasty meal on it’s flight, fingers crossed it’s the same as 3 years ago

Sorry I just re-read your post, I now see it’s more of an informational post to others than something you where looking at, doh! But hey some of my reply will be relevant to people thinking about the options, I know I didn’t have as many as I would have liked flying from Glasgow.

We are traveling from Manchester in 9 weeks, as Newcastle does not have a flight in the winter season. In fact we were informed they not know have long haul flights full stop.

We did not look too much into florida air, as we have already booked for next year as well.

I know I live nowhere near Glasgow, so I'm never going to fly with them, but I was reading a story about this on the web only a few weeks ago. Apparently they are a new airline set up by one guy (obviously with a lot of money!) who was annoyed that outside of the peak months, there were no direct options to Florida from Scotland - you had no choice but to fly via London. So he decided to do something about it - good on him I say!

I've just received an e-mail from your florida air....

We have had a fantastic launch of our new service to Orlando, great press coverage, and it has been welcomed broadly by the Scottish people. Unfortunately, enough bookings have not been forthcoming, and we have reluctantly decided the program is not viable, and have cancelled all current flights. Any passengers already with seats reserved, have been informed by letter, and their cheques returned to them.

We do realise that this will cause much difficulty with those who have booked flights with us, and we apologise for this inconvenience, which is wholly outside our control.

We have taken this difficult decision, to ensure that no problems develop further down the line, and passengers are left stranded, or the CAA have to call on our bond. By cancelling at this stage, it is hoped that it will cause the least disruption overall, and we know that no passengers will lose out. Further down the line, we could not be sure of this, and we do not wish to be in that situation.

I see they updated the web site to say this also, wasn’t the best looking site in the world, didn’t inspire confidence, well not in me anyway.

I am all for competition on these routes, but some times you need to stick with the well known brands. British Airways and Virgin is not going any place soon and Iceland Air is owned in part by the government to Iceland so it won’t be in a hurray to go out of business. However I do keep in mind even the biggest can fall, and that’s what holiday insurance is for.

Just got an e-mail about this too......bit of a shame that it's not worked out. There are so few direct flights from Glasgow to Orlando, in the winter there are none at all!!

Maybe the 15 pounds membership fees put people off

That's a bit of a bummer!! For those of us up here that like to fly scheduled - not being stuck up by the way but I'm a big chap & it's not much fun with your legs stuck into the person in front for 9 hours or as on our last flight with First Choice -unable to see the TV screen,no upgrades available for 21 nights or the wrong day of the week!! So we normally fly from Manchester,you don't mind the drive down so much but back up..... or as we have done,connections to London. So come on Richard & BA get your finger out....after all the planes fly up in this direction before heading across the Irish Sea! SD aw:

I think it's them 12 month winters you have up there that stop them landing and taking off again though.
