I can't believe that people don't have fences around their property. Is that commmon in your area? Every community I've ever been in here in California - you have fencing on your prperty line.

I would speak to the neighbors. Then I would put fencing around my property.

Min.. I agree!!!

I understand this statement completely!! We now live in Illinois and I CAN NOT FOR THE LIFE OF ME.. understand why there are very few fences in neighborhoods.. regular lots ...(just like California's neighborhoods)
When they do put up a fence everybody puts up any kind of fence... so next to me is a 6 foot high wrought iron fence, on the otherside a 6 foot ''good neighbor" fence... behind me a 4 foot iron fence and then our fence.. a 4 foot curved fence... (it was here when we bought the place) and when we do replace it.. up goes the tallest dang vinyl fence we can purchase.

In California neighborhood almost everyone has a fence.. hec you share your fence on lot lines with neighbors.. you talk about it if you want to change your fence.. yes sometimes this leads to problems.. we never had one with any of our neighbors tho... good fences, good neighbors

sorry to get OT..

OP.. so very sorry that your garden was destroyed by a neigborhood ogre named Frank... what an idiot! You may never get restitution.. but I am sure hoping you do. A big public apology would be good.. and he should offer to replant your garden as you supervise....
Best wishes!

It's seems to be common in areas where the houses are close together. Out here where I live in NJ NOBODY fences in their property - for us - we'd have to have 1/3 of a mile of fencing to fence in our 4 acres - LOL!

ok, where in jersey can you still find 4 acres lol

Sussex County, Warren County...

My town actually has a 5/7 acre building rule now. In the more "congested" parts of town you cannot build on anything less than 5 acres - outside the established communities you cannot build on anything less than 7 acres. My property was grandfathered - but any farm land sold off to contractors is subjected to these rules thank goodness.

MY DH is from Bergen County - when we got married we had some didcussions on where to live - I won and he's in heaven now... :)

We don't have a lot of fences here either. Some of the nearer developments on small lots will have fences put up in the back yards by the builder. There are many times I wish we had a fence though. I am tired of the neighbors dog crapping in my yard.

I would still be sick with the loss of the garden- I order my seeds in January from several sources (heirloom plants), start them in February, baby them until time to plant and then spend some time every day checking them, feeding, watering....Stress relieving for me and I do count on the results for freezing, canning, using fresh, etc. Lots of time and money spent in producing this- I would call the police. I'm so sorry you had to deal with this; I actually clutched at my chest when I read this.
