Just had to cancel VGC and Aulani for next week - just rambling

I had the spontaneous pneumothorax issue about 15 years ago. We monitored it for a while and saw steady progress so there was no need for surgery. It was a little scary at first. Felt like I was having a heart attack.

For the record, I'm 5'8" 180. Not exactly tall and thin like someone suggested. My doctor told me that this can happen to anyone. There is no demographic for it.

Thankfully it appears your son has a very good chance of complete recovery. I feel for you having all the worry regarding your son and then having to deal with companies that don't care about emergency cancellations. I know in their minds that's what insurance is for, but they still could be polite and helpful.

It is nice to know that eventually you will be able to go Aulani as I too was one looking forward to your TR.

Hopefully you won't need this regarding the DLR tickets. pixiedust: But just in case. I just wish that pixie dust could fix everything for you.

Yes, that is exactly who gets these. Isn't that funny? So weird. Who knew?! Sounds like you were given the same advice we were. Just sit around & do nothing for a couple of weeks & watch it.

I am truely just glad it didn't happen like WHILE we were flying or WHILE we were trying to Snuba or WHILE we were on up at 10,000 feet on top of Mt. Haleakala.:goodvibes

Awww, thanks. I hope that it will just work out for next year. Hoping I can do something to get some money out of these DL tix as I don't think we'll be able to use them before they expire.

Can I send you a PM about the DL tickets?

Doing the "get well" dance for your son.

I feel your pain about Delta, had to cancel with them once and not so helpful. Luckily I was able to use the credit.

So sorry to hear about your son and hoping for a quick recovery. What good thinking to turn your trip into a road trip. I really enjoyed hearing about your planning and was really looking forward to getting your impressions of my 2 homes. I know it will happen for you when all is well.

That's right. If it's going to happen, glad you were home where recovery will be more comfortable and no extraneous circumstances surrounding it all.

I was VERY surprised to see this post. I, too, have followed all of your comments on the impending trip. Here's to a speedy recovery for him and peace of mind for the rest of the family.

Can I send you a PM about the DL tickets?

I have been on the phone a couple of times about the DL tix. The first time the CM I ended up talking to gave me an email address to contact and she told me that they should be able to (maybe) process a refund for me. I followed her instructions, scanned in the tix to attach etc. and wrote this big long email with all of my confirmations etc. only to have the email address give me a delivery failure. :(

So I just called ticketing again. This time the CM told me that he spoke to a ticket services agent that said since we have the actual tickets we SHOULD BE able to just bring them to Guest Services at WDW and turn them in to be credited toward WDW tickets or AP's. So in effect, skip the refund process & just credit them toward the new tix.

I am wondering what the answer would be if I called again a 3rd time.:rotfl:

I may go over to one of the other resort boards & look for Chesire Figment or somebody to see what they say... Getting a credit toward the new tix would be a great resolution if that's possible.....still trying to verify if I can....

Posting on the theme parks board for Cheshire sounds like a great idea. You didn't buy them from Undercover Tourist, did you? I know they give refunds for unopened tickets.
I can't stop thinking about this bad luck you had. You have been so generous in helping others with Hawaii questions and now you have to cancel your own trip. I am sure that the health problem your DS is has put this all in perspective but you are handling the stress of everything like a real champ. Bravo to you!!! :worship:

No, I bought them from DL online. I don't think UCT handles DL tix but I could be wrong.:confused3 I ordered them the day before the price increase June 1st (and now I wish I'd also ordered AP's before the increase). I posted over on the strategies board - hoping Chesire Figment will chime in. Already got folks over there reminding me how handy trip insurance would've been - as if that wasn't one of my first thoughts when we got this diagnosis on Thursday. I am not impressed with the DVC insurance and I don't think that would've helped with the tix anyway, but I should've insured the flights. :(

Let us know what happens with your DL tix. We MIGHT be going over Fall Break. If you get stuck with them and they are transferrable, we may be interested. Keep us posted.

I am really thinking that Disney will let you get credit towards other tickets. People post that they even refund supposedly non-refundable tickets like MNSSHP if there is a good reason.
I buy the DVC insurance every year because we fly about 4 times every year and we have quite a few points so it is cheap for us. DH is 80 and some insurances jack up the price for seniors. I hope we never have to use the DVC insurance but if we do it will be interesting to see how they pay. I would probably not use the points part but would try to use the other parts.

Well, you've made the best of a terrible situation and most importantly your son will recover. At least SSR has availability for you all to have some vacation down time after such a harrowing experience. Thank goodness you found out before flying and possibly causing further, long term damage!

Relax and enjoy yourselves and God's speed for a full and quick recovery!

Well good 'ole Cheshire Figment replied to my other thread and said that I CAN INDEED trade in my DL tickets at a park guest relations window and apply them toward our WDW tix!!:cool1: (Just can't be done at a water park or at a resort). Said they can scan them & see if they were used or not. :thumbsup2 I think this is the simplest solution provided we're able to go, which I am trying to hold positive thoughts on.

I still haven't called Starwood yet but I did call the recreation.gov folks and got our money back for the Pearl Harbor / USS Missouri tour. Right now I am taking a little time to make some ADR plans for this trip. I am feeling ready for a nap tho!!:rotfl:

I'm glad you are finding solutions to your reservation and cancellation issues. These things are never fun, not necessarily because you can't get full refunds on everything, but because you were so looking forward to your trip. I hope that you have a peaceful and relaxing time at SSR.

We NEVER get trip insurance; it just seems like a waste of money to us since we've never needed it. I'm sure when that first emergency comes up, we'll wish we'd gotten it.

I'm glad your son's issue was caught early, and here's hoping he recovers on his own!

OP, it looks like the pieces are falling into place one at a time. Happy the ticket question may have a happy ending.

Wow. Sorry to hear what you are going through. I hope you can recoup as much money as possible. I also hope your son a speedy recovery.

Good news on the tix! I just thought of something I didn't remember til now. I had asked one of the points bloggers what would happen if we wanted to cancel our res we had made on points trans from AmEx and she said we could cancel but the points would stay in the transferred acct so we could use them in the future they just would not go back into our AmEx acct. I would not delay, I would call to cancel right away in case there is a seven day cancellation, etc.

Hope you can re-bank those points!

I know they won't go back to Amex - just hope Starwood will let them go back into their account and that we can re-use them later. I didn't get around to calling them yet. I got sidetracked this afternoon with DH. His car is dying (on top of everything else). It has a transmission problem (it's already on its 2nd transmission and its 2nd engine - it's been nothing but 10 years of problems). So we took a couple of hours to go out car shopping (really more like sticker shopping & brochure collecting). Very stressful as we really aren't in a position to do a payment of any sort right now. BUT with DH's car acting up when trying to put it into gear we sort of have to think about it. We are done dumping thousands into the old one for repairs.

My eye keeps twitching! :rotfl:

Holy cow! I hope that the black cloud hanging over you disappears soon. Too many problems!!!
