Just had DrivingLicence rejected as ID

Been here a week and a half now and have been using it for drinks in House of Blues, Epcot and Discovery Cove. Just tried to get a drink at Cirque Du Soleil and was told it couldn't be used and I could only use a passport. It is apparently against the law to use a D/L now. We asked the question when we first got here as we for feel 100% comfortable carrying passports around and was told there would be no problem with D/L. The lady and Cirque told us 'a new law was passed 2 weeks ago that only passports can now be used'
Seems strange that they are the only place to know this? Anyone else had any issues?

This was announced some time ago. Seems people are applying the new rules intermittently but HOB are right, Driving Licence is no longer acceptable from of ID.

Ive read lots of reports online that Disney have confirmed that they will accept a photocopy of your passport aslong as its accompanied by a D/L.

We fly Friday and thats what i plan to do.

I've read this too. To be honest, I think I'm just gonna bite the bullet and take our passports out with us.

Do they ID people quite regularly? I might need to take my passport everywhere with me if they do. I am 31 but a lot of people think I am a lot younger and I often get asked for I.D. when buying alcohol over here. I don't see it myself though!!

I'm 33 and on every trip I have been on I have been asked for ID. I still get asked in stores here.
It's a pest they won't accept your D/L but I guess if you want a drink then we are just going to have to take them with us.

I will take mine with me to be on the safe side then. I would hate to be awaiting a delicious cocktail only to be turned away for having no I.D. !!

Interesting - I went in this year (age 28) and didn't get asked. Last year I did, along with my mum (nearly 60!)

It's not against the law to accept a DL as ID, just Disney's policy, which only seems to be enforced at some places.

Like others have said, take a photocopy of your passport with you.

Okay, so today I've been to typhoon lagoon and was okay with just a D/L. There's just no
Consistency which is where my anger comes from. It's been fine using it the last 10 days but so far only one place has said no to the D/L?

Cirque isn't owned by Disney so could have a different policy.

I agree its frustrating but at least the Disney owned places all seem to be back to accepting just the DL now

US law still requires visitors to carry their passport at all times

the fact that this is seldom enforced in a tourist zone like the Orlando area doesn't change the law

there is no issue with stopping to accept the DL as ID since we're already required to carry our passports in the first place

Working in Coral Reef this summer, we were told that any international visitor has to have their passport as ID or you will be refused. It also has to be in English.

This is due to the fact that obviously someone from the states who serves you may not know whether your license is genuine or a fake.

As some have said it doesn't seem consistent however the official Disney rule is, passport as ID or you will be refused.

Maybe it depends how old you look.

If you look 30 and they ID you just to be safe then I can see them accepting a DL. However if you look 19 but produce a DL saying you're 21, I guess they're more likely to want a passport?

I would have imagined they are looking for consistency to make one rule for all employees (talking specifically Disney here) so that the policy is transparent. Some of your servers serving alcohol may barely be 21. At 21 it is a lot harder to tell the difference between a 22 and a 27 year old than it is when you're older. I am no good at ages. To me, if you are not a minor or a pensioner, you all kinda fit into the same zone

Disney were only accepting passports as ID for proof of age on the Disney Wonder and at Disneyland, we did find it consistent at both. On the Wonder they were happy to accept a copy of a passport but at Disneyland my DD (wish I could say it was me they wanted to ID but sadly not ) just took her passport with her when we went out for a meal in the evening ..... although they accepted a DL as ID for travellers cheques!

It does say on the Foreign office website that you must carry a passport showing that you have leave to enter or remain with you at all times. I must admit we've never done this at WDW and didn't going into the Disneyland parks either, worked rightly or wrongly on the principle that we were only 8 minutes away from our hotel so could easily obtain them if required to but when we went into Los Angeles for the day we took them with us then.
