I was downstairs and the whole basement/ceiling was shaking. I came upstairs to find out what the heck was going on and my kids were scared to death asking what just happened.
I told them it was the house shifting and nothing to be afraid of but it was definitely an earthquake.

anyone else experience this or know where to find out if we should be worried? We are in Gloucester County NJ.

Breaking news just now -- 5.8, centered in Mineral, VA, evacuating Pentagon and US Capitol. Felt as far as Manhattan. Whether you should worry or not depends on your personal tolerance for swaying!

Haven't heard where it was based out of yet but I felt it here too near Buffalo, NY.

We felt it in Boston too!!!! Waiting for news to pop up, but so far we're just seeing the headlines. I'm on the 5th floor of my office building, and it was like the whole floor was vibrating! One of my co-workers was on the phone with a friend in NYC, and he had just felt it as well! Crazy stuff!

USGS shows it as 5.9 located 4 miles SSE of Louisa, VA. That's pretty sizeable for the East Coast!

I felt it here in Morgantown, WV. To keep this budget related :rotfl2:...I was on the phone with a lady from Terminex because our neighbor across the street just called and said they have termites and that the people two houses down from us do too. I kept saying to her, "I think we just had an earthquake. I think we just had an earthquake". I'm sure the Terminex lady thought I was a nut case. There goes $59.00/month for pest control. Oh well, I guess it beats the alternative. I hope they don't find any damage.

It was so weird! the wood blinds rattled so loud, I thought the window was open and it was windy, I was so confused. I knew windows are closed for the AC, so I was thinking, is the window broken? Whole house was shaking. Then DD upstairs started screaming and I ran to the foyer and saw the chandlier swaying back and forth..... I sort of froze, not sure what to do. I saw a plane outside and thought, did a plane crash and explode? So confusing.

WEIRD!!

Central NJ here.

I'm 90 miles north of NYC and I think I felt it. I was sitting at a red light and felt my van jerk slightly. I checked my rearview because I thought the guy behind me tapped my rear end.

Hope everyone is okay :goodvibes

I felt it in Pittburgh, Pa. It was just
a little but my light fixture kept
swinging and I knew something had
to be up:confused3

Our building shook like crazy...all the ladies up here were going nuts!!! Everyone running around asking what happened....then we all lost cell phone service for 30 minutes....it was weird that's for sure.

I'm down near Cape May. My houseplants swayed for about 5 minutes and a picture fell, but other than that, all ok.

My brother is in Chesapeake, still haven't been able to get hold of him. But I can't find any reports of major damage, so I'm hoping everything is ok. He is about 2 hours from the epicenter.

ETA: He emailed back, all is ok. Phew. I wasn't expecting bad news from all reports saying no major damage, but it was nice to hear from him!

Sure felt it here in Rosslyn, VA (across the river from Washington)! I'm on the 17th floor! :scared1:

I didn't feel a thing lol. I'm not sure what that says about me everyone I know what calling.

I felt it near Philadelphia, and Facebook lit up with all my friends from VA through NY feeling it. Our building rattled, badly, for about a minute. At first we thought it was some carts rolling down the hallway (our building is part offices, part warehouse), but then everyone started saying EARTHQUAKE!

I haven't gotten a hold of my parents on the Chesapeake bay yet. :(
