Just got pack....a little disappointed!!

There is a thread over on the resorts board about spreads and blankets, they do not get changed between guests (at any WDW resort or most hotels countrywide). I would have called and requested new blankets.

I had a smoking room one time at CSR. I arrived with friends and we were thrilled to get connecting rooms ready at 8:30am. The front desk neglected to tell us they were smoking (we had requested non-smoking), we found out when we got to the rooms (which were a distance from the lobby, near the pool). We were so anxious to just drop our stuff and go to the parks, we just called housekeeping for an ionizer. It really didn't help much. I really noticed it when I got home and opened my suitcase, everything smelled. We regretted not asking for a change, that was our mistake.

Oh how I laughed when I read "40 miles from the lobby". We stayed there on Monday and Tuesday nights in the room right next to yours!! It did seem like 40 miles. We did request non-smoking and got a smoking optional room but it didn't really stink until I took out an extra blanket from the closet - that was the first time I realized we were in a smoking room. I have allergies but it was nothing to get worked up about. The only thing that bothered me was that if it had been bad and I got stuck in a smoking room, I would have been upset because that's the ONLY request that I make! Anyhow I was happy with the service - not so happy about the rain. We made the best of it but since I had to come back to nasty Ontario weather, I was hoping for a bit of sunshine to hold me over until spring gets going here. On the bright side the lines at MK on Thursday were minimal - we rode Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, Pirates (twice) and Haunted Mansion all before 10:00 AM!! Of course when we left Saturday the sun was shining again - figures eh?

Maria, only guessing here, but isn't the entire Vistana Resort smoking optional?
Yep, MG, you're right. So this must be the reason I've never gotten a nasty smelling room. They would have to deodorize them all at Vistana.
But I wouldn't expect housekeeping at the Disney resorts to do this to all the smoking units, but when one smells as bad as the OP made it out to be, I would just think the housekeeper would take it upon themselves to maybe just go that extra little bit ? I'm sure not all the smoking rooms are horrible.....this one just sounded paticularily so ?

Thanks for the report. Glad u enjoyed SSR, but sorry about all that rain & chilly temps you had.
As for the smokey smell......I own a timeshare offsite where all rooms are smoking optional and we've never even smelled so much as a hint of smoke and we've stayed there every year for the past 10 years. They must do a super job cleaning I guess ? The room you had at BWV, smoking or not, sounded unacceptable to give to a guest to me ? I'm suprised. There are proper ways to sanitize and deodorize a room. Sounds like they didn't do this.
I'm also with Laceemouse in saying that you're a nicer person than me too. My dh is a smoker and we always get non-smoking rooms and make him go outside (not on the balcony) to smoke. He doesn't mind.....thankfully.
BTW, hope your mom gets her cell phone back !

This made me laugh. My DF has been a smoker since before I was born. DM is not a smoker and hates the smell. She has never, never let him smoke in their house or in her car. She refuses to ride in his car for any reason because he smokes in it. She would NEVER get a smoking room for him or let him smoke on the balcony (it might blow in)!

I'm glad the restaurants in FL are all non-smoking. It's nice not to have to worry about that. Last weekend DH, our kids and myself ate at a TGI Fridays on a Sat night. The wait was 30-45 mins for non-smoking. When I gave our name, every name before ours had N (for non-smoking) circled. The restaurant is new and the smoking section is really tiny, maybe 8-10 tables. DD 3, was driving us crazy in the waiting area because she wanted milk. We decided to take a smoking table and got seated right away, it was only half full. This was a mistake. The table stunk. My sons were complaining about the smell the entire time and no one was even smoking near us! I think it was just lingering smells. We all agreed next time we will wait for a non-smoking table. We actualy started talking about how happy we are that when we go to Disney, none of the restaurants have smoking sections! :)
I wish the resorts would go non-smoking also. Our friends own at a new Marriot timeshare that is still under construction and the entire thing is going to be non-smoking. I think that's so nice. My DF claims that if I wait long enough smoking will be banned everywhere! He struggles sometimes to find a smoking spot and claims it is only getting worse. :sunny:

Lost cell phone.

I lost track of my cell phone once. Left it at home, thought I lost it in a store.

I had the service suspended until I got the phone back into my hands then reinstated service.

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience but I would like to know a little more about SSR since we will be there in APril. I am wondering about your view, and any little tidbits you can add about your stay there>

Well....We had a water view, however, on the other side of the water was construction.

If you work out, the gym was incredible. High tech equiptment...Nothing like the stuff I pay to use around here. The pool was nice, the restraunt questionalbe. They did have the new member watch...much nicer than the original. I also got the Lilo and stitch pin and the Chip and Dale one. I collect the member pins, so, I was excited about that.

Personally, I think SSR is my favorite Florida resort. None of the resorts beat HH...I love everytning about that place. I have officially stayed at them all except the beach club. SInce I did not like BWV and they seem to be similar, I will not be spending the extra points to stay there.

Anyway, enjoy your trip. I am sure you will be thrilled with SSR.
