We just got back from our 10 day stay at the Poly. It was wonderful as usual.

We arrived Friday 9/21 and decided to take a cab to the Poly instead of using the ME. That was a breeze! I don't care if the ME is free, whenever I have a little extra $$ I will take a cab any time.

Check in was a breeze. We were originally given Aeortora (sp?) which was ready at check in. I don't particularly care for that building so I asked if there was anything else, the CM called and was told there was nothing else so we accepted the room, however when the CM finished processing the check in it switched to Tokelau, which was one of our requests. We had to wait for that room, but that was okay we checked our carryons with bell services and went to MK until our room was ready.

I liked the new rooms, I took several naps in the chaisse ...lol. We were on the first floor but our patio was covered by 4 feet high bushes. Hey pay for Garden View and that's what we got..lol. I didn't really like the sensor a/c thing. We got really hot in the middle of the night..until I figured out there was a switch for the ceiling fan...duh. Once I figured that out it was okay.

Housekeeping was good. Timely. Only once we came back to our room and it wasn't finished, but that wasn't her fault. We didn't get up out of the room until after 10am and we were swimming so when we returned to the room at 3pm she hadn't gotten to it. No biggie, it was cleaned when we returned that evening. I didn't request extra towels, but I guess she noticed that we would use all of our towels each day so she started leaving a few extra. No towel animals the whole stay and our stuffed animals weren't situated either, pretty much where the kids left them is where they were when they returned. No biggie either, just an observation.

Captain cooks wasn't hard to figure out, although I think they should have a better variety on the kids menu for breakfast for the dining plan. The first day of our stay the dining room was pretty dirty and the person working in the dining area was not very motivated to clean it either, but the rest of the time any messes that people left was promptly cleaned.

The smoking thing was an issue with us though. I am a smoker and I abided by the new smoking policy, but it was not enforced at all. People were lighting up like crazy at the pool and pretty much anywhere they wanted and not one time was someone told to move to the smoking area. I was actually thinking about giving up the courtesy and lighting up at the pool with everyone else, but I fought the urge and went to the smoking area at the end of the pool area...lol.

There was an incident with pool hoppers...gasp! It was painfully obvious they weren't staying there especially when they announced they weren't staying at the Poly, they were staying offsite. In a casual conversation with a lifeguard I asked if they ever check to make sure everyone at the pool is either DVC or resort guests and he stated that during the summer they do, but this time of year they don't because it's not that crowded. So basically they don't enforce it except during the summer. I didn't specifically point out the family that was pool hopping though. It did rub me the wrong way because they should enforce it all year round. Even though it was not a typical crowded time of year the pool wasn't crowded but to get a seat near the pool was not easy. You felt like a stalker waiting for someone to look like they might be leaving the pool area so you can have their spot..lol.

Bus service was OK. We usually lucked out and walked up on a bus going to our destination at the time. However, one day on the way back from AK we waited over an hour for a bus to come and that was only when a guy with slacks and a button down with a disney tag came up to our bus stop and asked how long we had been waiting and immediately rerouted another bus to our area.

All in all it was a wonderful stay and we booked for next year with the bounceback offer. Two rooms...10 days..a magical gathering with my brother and his family!!

Sounds great! Congratulations on keeping to that non-smoking policy, I wish the people upstairs from us at CR were as courteious as you :)

The Poly pool is a breeding ground for hoppers, it's a very famous pool, too bad they don't enforce it, I mean you are paying for it and the hoppers are not, not good.

Sorry to hear about your bus situation, because we stayed at CR and used the Poly buses (even though most of them were shared anyway, it was still quicker from the Poly), there's nothing more icky than standing at a hot bus stop for an hour after wandering the parks for hours, ugh...

OOPS just saw that at the end of your post about the bounce back, lol Was there a flyer in your room or did you hear it from here like me?

All and all a wonderful stay, and you are bouncing back! Lucky you! I'll be there again in less than 2 months and cannot wait.

I'm curious... how much was the taxi fare to the Poly? And who did you use? My husb and I always rent a car, but for a girls trip planned in Feb, we don't plan on a rental. We thought we'd give DME a try, but the thought of a quick taxi trip is more appealing.

Have fun planning for next year! :)

There was a flyer in our room. I had heard about it briefly on here prior to leaving but didn't know if we'd have the extra money to book it...lol...so we waited until the last day of booking 9/28 when we realized we'd have the money for the deposits. They gave us a bit of a hassle because they kept saying we needed to book it on our check out day and I kept telling them that the offer was over on 9/28 and we weren't checking out until 9/30. After three CMs and some frustration we got it booked.

It was about 55-60 bucks from the airport to the Poly. We used just a yellow cab sitting there..didn't reserve a pickup. Same on the way back, the bell services hailed a yellow cab for us, they are usually waiting there at any given time.

It was worth the money..on the way back we would have had to catch the 2:15 DME to get back to the airport, by using the cab we left the MK at 3pm and still arrived at the airport before the folks that were on our plane who got the 2:15 DME.

Thanks for the great detailed report. And thanks for abiding by the smoking rules!!!:) We are planning our first Poly visit in July and can't wait. I agree with your view on the pool hoppers. If a person wants to swim in a pool at a specific resort, then they need to stay there!!! Glad you had such a great time.

Yes, thank you so much for abiding by the smoking policy. As an asthmatic, I really, really appreciate it when people do that because it means I can avoid the smoke so much more and use my inhalers so much less. :grouphug:

As far as the people breaking the rules, I'm shocked there were so many there when you stayed- when we were there in early Sept we only saw one person break the rules in an 8 day 9 night stay.

Thanks again for the great report esp. posting how much the cab cost you cause I'm always wondering- seems about the same as our towncar usually does. I agree that it's definitely worth every penny to save the time and not take the ME!!!

Thanks for posting. We check in on wednesday. Not looking forward to this pool hopping thing again though :headache:. It's not right that how you can almost never find a chair anytime after noon. Glad you got Tokelau. too bad about the smokers, that must have been irritating :goodvibes since you were following the rules and others just light up wherever they want.

Thanks for you're review and I agree with you that the Polynesian should enforce the no pool hopping rule all year round. Personally I think it's the 2nd most popular pool after SAB, which is why I wish it would be off limits for pool hopping just like SAB and the pool at AKL is. This way it is 100% exclusively for the guests staying at the Polynesian.

Great update on the Poly. I wonder why they feel it is only necessary to monitor pool hoppers during the summer. They should give all paying guests the same courtesy no matter what time of the year they are staying. :)
