Just got back from Kidani Village... Great lobby photo!

A question for your DW or OP. Whenever I take pictures like the one posted above, they always come out real dark. How do you take pictures indoors in large areas and have them come out so that they are not so dark?

Actually, this is what is known as an HDR (High Dynamic Range) photograph. It is comprised of 7 photos each with varying exposure. Many HDR photographs look completely fake, but I wanted to make this one slightly believable so I tried not to overdo it. A single picture would have come out either too dark in several areas and/or blown out in others. I'm very pleased with the final product. I took it to Costco and got a 20" x 30" poster print for $10. IMO, it looks fantastic!

Great photo, what type of camera? I am shopping for a new one.

I shot this photo using a Nikon D300 and a Nikon 24 - 70mm f/2.8 lens.

Thanks for the info about the paper plates....did you have to get any extra towels or did you find that you had enough? I don't know why I am worried about extra towels.....:rotfl:

We had 3 people in the room and 6 towels. Even with several days between towel service, I felt we had enough. I did notice that there was no air flow in the bathroom and the towels would take a long time to dry though. I put a couple towels in the main room before heading to bed (we were in a studio). (The exhaust fan was controlled by a motion sensor and would turn off a couple of minutes after leaving the area).

Hope this helps.

My first thought on seeing this was, "Wow, very nicely done and not fakey looking HDR." :) :thumbsup2

That is the best lobby picture I've seen. Thanks for sharing. How was your view from the 5th floor?

Great photograph! Makes me really anxious for our January stay at Kidani!

 Thanks!

The view from the 5th floor was good... I only wish I would have brought a zoom lens to take closer pics of the animals. Certainly a room on a lower level would have brought us closer... but no one seemed to notice. :)

That is an AWESOME photo! Thanks for posting how you did this, as well as the make/model of the camera. I unfortunately can't even afford the camera body. Did you post this in the DIS photography forum yet? If not, consider posting it on this thread I started three years ago (still going).

Thanks for the info on Kidani... going there next week! :woohoo:
