We just got back from staying at the Contemporary through Shades of Green. We had a great time....can't say enough about the wonderful room and great service. Let me know if I can answer any questions.

Hi, What was your room location and view?? Did you request anything for a room? I have noted on my reservation 1st floor and near tower. We also have non-smoking for medical reasons and I paid 10.00 for a lagoon view.Did you enjoy your location? Thanks, Joan:smooth:

Please tell us ALL about it!! We will be there in less then a month!!!!! Did it feel "Disney" to you? Are the rooms at the end of the wing really that far of a walk? Was the service good?
Thanks:D

Yes, please let us know about your room location and how you liked it. We will be there right after Thanksgiving, and would love to know all about SOG/CR. Thanks

Also, did you dine at CR, and did you have PS's for these meals? What were the wait times for seating?

We were very pleased with our room. We were on the second floor of the north garden wing(room #7243) and had a view of the courtyard---could see just a little bit of the lagoon. When we were going to be at Shades of Green, we were supposed to have a first floor room but then didn't get that when we were transferred to Contemporary. The elevators were a little slow so most of the time we just took the stairs. It wasn't a bad walk at all from the bus stop and pool. I wish the rooms would have had a balcony with chairs like the tower rooms did. The sliding glass doors opened but just a gate, no balcony.

The rooms are very big and there was lots of room for storage. Nice big closet, plenty of drawers, a safe in the closet, and a huge bathroom. All the rooms had a hair dryer and iron/ironing board. The rooms didn't have anything Disney related in them at all. I really thought there would be at least a Disney related picture hanging up. It didn't bother us though.

The only complaint that we had was the guest laundry facilities. They were located on the second floor in the north garden wing. We did two loads of wash in the middle of the week and it cost us $12 and we spent 2 hours in there! $2 per load to wash and $2 per 30 minutes of dryer time. Unfortunately it took two dryer cycles to dry a load of clothes---obviously the dryers are not hot enough!

We took beach towels for the pool and days of waterparks. We didn't need to though. They had towels around the pool for you to use. If you are going to a waterpark, just borrow some of those towels and return them after the waterpark.

The cafeteria in the Contemporary was a good place to grab something quick to eat. We ate most of our breakfast there. Had eggs, pancakes but then good muffins/danishes too. Had a microwave there to heat things up too. The place wasn't anything fancy but was definitely clean.

We ate at Chef Mickey's one morning....we had called a month earlier for these reservations. Didn't try any of the other restaurants at the Contemporary.

Let me know if you have any other questions!!!

Sounds like it was fabulous! We will be doing the SOG at CR in 134 days.......can't wait! Thanks for all the info!:)

hi LaurenK,
I am a different Amy, LOL but we stayed at the CR via SoG from 9/10-9/21. We requested a room as far away from the tower as possible. It was just DH and I, and we wanted peace and quiet. We got our request--room 8122--the second to last room (closest to the MK) facing the lagoon in the NGW. The walk wasn't that bad to us, about 6-8 minutes to the tower, but then again we didn't have small kids, diaper bags, strollers, etc., that we had to carry back and forth. It was awesome though--we could watch the electrical light pageant from our bed!

We thought it felt "Disney" enough, but not along the same lines as WL or AKL. However, we really, really liked it! We were treated no differently than the "real" CR guests, as far as we could tell. We were fortunate and didn't run into any of the structural (ceiling falling in) and service issues some other DISers have. Also, even though I am 28 and DH is 29 we thought it was so cool to have the monorail running right through the hotel.

If you have any other questions, just let me know. I'll do my best to answer them!

Hi Dis-knee,
We ate at all 3 table service restaurants at the CR. We had lunch PS for the Concourse Steakhouse, and it was empty--no PS needed. The food there was good, but there are lots of places at WDW that serve better. We would probably only go here again if there was nowhere else to eat quickly. One evening while we were there, we decided that we wanted to try Chef Mickeys for breakfast, but no PS were available. We went at about 10:30 anyway and we were seated within 15 minutes. The food was good, and DH and I had a surprisingly good time considering we were there w/o any kids. We had PS for California Grill on our arrival night. We had no wait, and the food was awesome. However, I am not sure if we'll go back. There were tons of drunk conventioners there, and it was so loud. Our server had to literally get 3 inches from us to take our order. It may have been the time of year we went, though--there were at least 5 conventions that we knew of there at the same time we were. I am glad we tried it once, though. I hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks everyone for your replies! Wasn't there only one falling in ceiling incident?!? I only remember one being reported, along with all of the other rude CM reports. I am glad to hear that you all have had a great experience!

I am so relieved to hear these good reports. We will be there via SoG in June2003 and I have been unsure whether or not I would be happy there after hearing some of the horror stories. This eases my mind alot.

BTW- what is the best way to request a room at CR? How soon should I make a request? Which rooms should we request? (Its just my hubby and me in one room and my sister in another.) Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks again for the info.

Lola

Glad too to see a good SoG/CR report. It just is such a bummer to see the bad reports.....that make one doubt there own vacation. Glad you had a great time.
