My graduation/Christmas/birthday present from my husband (I told him he is covered until next Christmas!).

I'm reading the manual, taken a few pictures, visit the website...
Please help me out and give me some advice.
Am I wrong, or was there a Nikon photography school on line?

Thank you much! I'm all ears (and eyes);)

As far as I can tell you have to pay for Nikon School. The best way to learn that camera is to read the manual and play w/it, repeat. If you're looking for DSLR photography in general go get Bryan Peterson's "Understanding Exposure" it's easy to understand and straight forward. There's also a thread here called, "The Learning Curve" that's full of info and one with photo tips for Disney that can be applied to daily life as well. Also, most here are very helpful and happy to answer questions. Oh yeah, read the manual, repeat, lol!

I own the D90 so if you have any specific questions feel free to ask!

I too second "Understanding Exposure", very good learning book IMO. Also I recommend spending a lot of time on this board looking at pictures and asking questions.

There is a GREAT group of regulars who are always willing to help. There are also a number of Nikonians using a wide range of Nikon dSLR's. Even those members using other brands can offer advise. The basic settings (for exposure anyway) are going to be the same on any camera.

Thanks, I'm open to all the advice that I can get (not exclusive to Nikon).
I also have an old Cannon SLR as well as other point and shoot 35mm and digital cameras. I just want to re-learn the basics and beyond.

My daughter has taken photography since middle school (magnet art program), and she is way more knowledgeable than I am...I would like to take photography classes in the future (after passing my boards).

I went to the Nikon school many years back and it was alot of fun and you got to play with some nice stuff also.

Thanks Dr Zero you made me smile, and sing along... I love Paul Simon

I'm thinking about going to this in Chicago in April. Can you give me an idea of topics they cover? I'm looking at the more advanced one. Can't remember the exact name. They have two - intro to digital photography and then a more advanced option.

I have not been to the Nikon school in 30 years. It was great to go then and I am sure it is the same today. My perception, however is that it a Nikon feast heavier on the visual eye candy than on the actual learning.

There is a website called Nikonians. Just google it. It is made up of Nikon owners from around the world. Pros to newbies. They offer traveling one day seminars that are amazing. The seminars are limited to 12 so you get one on one care. Check those out.

There is another great Nikon site called Nikoncafe. Jeff put me on to that one. Also really good as well.

There are a lot of great Nikon people on this board. Many of the Canon people are tolerable..... LOL and the rest you will learn to put up with! Double LOL.

Everyone here is very helpful and friendly. Ask away!

Which kind of boards are you taking if I may ask?

I went to the one up near Atlanta and it was great we had 2 really good teachers whos names I cannot remember to save my life but I remember some if their pics they were great!

They gave us 3 books to take with us covering basics on up and a diploma ;)

There was some good info on how lenses were made why some pics taken at the same time with the same conditions but different lenses could be different.

The one teacher has a photo with all these small votive candles lined up several deep and he commented on what he learned when doing that shoot was to remember to light all the candles in the back first and not start up front and move back left his arms be totally bald LOL.

They also had that HUGE lens the Nikon makes it was crazy to look through it!
