Just Got a Call from Disney

I just received a call from Disney concerning the 2008 dining plan. As many of you suggested I sent an email with my concerns about the changes. Of course they said they could not make changes for 2008 but may reconsider for 2009. She also said that for the dessert/appetizer issue: to ask the server in each resteraunt. The official policy is not to sub an appetizer for the dessert, but that it would be left up to each resteraunt. She seemed to be trying to say (without coming out and saying it out right) that the substitutions would be made There will still be a lost part of the meal, but at least it will give another choice and it seems like most people would just rather have a choice. She was very nice and said throughout the year they would be tweaking things to keep the plan affordable but attractive to their guests.

That's pretty much always the case: The individual restaurants must always do the minimum, but can always do more to satisfy guests, Dining Plan or otherwise.

That's interesting. We had decided not to use the DP if we go to WDW next year because we don't usually eat desert and it's no longer a good value for us. It might work for us if we could substitute for apps. I'll have to start reading the DP threads again in 2008 to see if they are allowing it.

Yup, we'll have to wait until then to see if any restaurants decide to do that -- however be forewarned that even restaurants that do so decide may change their mind over the course of time, or may leave it up to each server's discretion, and therefore the experience will be inconsistent.

If they would allow us to choose either an appetizer or dessert we might consider the DDP in 2008. My family prefers appetizers over dessert so the current plan would not be good for us. We used the DDP in August 2007 and didn't order dessert often. I'm going to watch the boards to see if they do allow us to order an appetizer instead of dessert.

It should be interesting because there will be lot of issues particularly with diabetics and/or people with food allergies. I have a nut allergy and there were a decent number of places where there really wasn't any dessert I could eat with an app I didn't care but without I wouldn't be very happy. I'm wondering if they'll come up with a specific quick, easy, cheap sub like want to swap dessert for an app you get this basic no frills salad (which would be fine by me) that wouldn't slow down the meal or be costly but I'd be happy enough with when I couldn't have a dessert.
