Thank you all for the lack of flames... I am so glad that most of you took this the way I hoped it would be taken. I am sorry I vented this way but I've been bugged by some of the fighting that has been going on for quite some time now. Many of you have offered wonderful thoughts here as well. I just hope that we can all learn to respect each other and be kind when we don't agree

I've been here quite a while but won't forget when my opinion was belitted and I felt insulted. You wouldn't think it would bother me, seeing as I am an adult. But, it did bother me a little for a while.

I thought I was a mature person, but that was a lesson for me on not focussing on negative things! I didn't know if I should start an argument or pm the perpretrator or what. So, I just practiced "letting go..."

I think that we all need to ask ourselves what it is about this environment that encourages this type of interaction? It's gone on for a long time. I love controversy, but even I would like to see it end. It would be nice for a change if we could work toward solutions on all sides.

No flames from me Elaine. Oftentimes I wonder why people choose to kick others here when they are down. Why they think that their opinion is the only one that counts. Why they don't read between the lines and figure out what someone is really asking for.

For myself, I have chosen to ignore those that upset me. No, not the ignore feature, I just don't bother to read what they post. Like you, I have core beliefs that I adhere to. No amount of beating me over the head with someone else's opinion is going to change my mind.

I don't come here for life lessons, to be preached to, or to learn anything new (unless it is how to do Disney for less ) or to exercise my rights to free speech or debate. I come here for camaraderie and to have fun. I also don't come here to watch others get belittled or made fun of for their beliefs. The real world gives me enough of that. What I come here for and sometimes read a good romance novel for is pure escapism or fluff if you will.

If I want something serious, I'll go to CNN.

There are many good people here on the DIS, and I have been privileged to meet a few. You, Elaine, are one of the good guys!

Wow. I am having a really rough time lately and have stayed away for a while. From this thread and Ray's looks like I missed more crud. I wonder what could possibly have happened.

You are one of the sweetest people I have seen here. {{{Hugs}}} and pd too! I understand the pain you are feeling as I have felt it more than once.

I agree that I do not want/expect all to agree. It is the WAY we disagree that measures our worth as humans.

Thank you Elaine for so eloquently and diplomatically stating your feelings (and mine too) in your post. I try to stay away from the controversial threads and confrontational threads but sometimes a thread changes and you get caught up in something you did not expect.

I always preview and re-preview my posts before posting. I try to read them as someone else to try to make sure that I have gotten my ideas across but in an unoffensive way. The LAST thing I want is to hurt someone else's feelings with a post so I do all I can to avoid it. It seems that there are others who do not feel this way and it is a real shame. I have been hurt here a few times by posters who basically called me a bad parent etc. and I can tell you the pain is real and it lasts. I really hope that those who hurt me did not realize this but somehow I think that for some it would not matter.

The Golden Rule is no different on the internet than in real life - it remains an excellent way to behave and one which I strive to follow every day. I may not always succeed but I am definitely trying!!

Thank you again Elaine for reminding all of us about the essential goodness that does live here on the DIS and that we have the power to rise above the negativity and malice that sometimes appears.

{{{HUGS}}} Elaine, definatly no flaming from me, heck, if I even tried I'd be wrapped in duct tape before I opened my mouth I must admit I have been involved in this lately...I didn't ask to be but when it was brought to my attention what was being said about me I couldn't back down. I will say this and admit it.....people who can turn their backs are MUCH better people than me. I have never been one to back down from anyone or anything....therein lies part of my problem.

Personally I was having much more fun talking duct tape, and Zoppini, and Apolo and Kurt then all of this. I miss it!! {{{HUGS}}} again!

I've been totally "out of the loop" - running back and forth trying to close up the lake house - so I don't have a clue what's been going on here - and from what I've been reading the past few hours, I guess that's a GOOD thing!

Hang in there sweetie - pretty soon the holiday season will be upon us and everyone will be back to loving and appreciating one another again..
