hi all, i thought you nice folks on the family board might be able to help me out. we have our wdw trip coming up on sept 8th and i just found out i am pregnant (surprise)! I'll only be 8 weeks along when we go and was hoping some of you have some advice on going to wdw during the first trimester?

thanks!

Congrats Crazywig

:D

I have no advice or tips for you as I am in the same place as you. We leave for our trip on the 1st and I will be about 10 weeks along.

So people out there thats two ladies who need your help.;) ;) ;)

Crazywig we are not back untill the 8 th so I won't be back in time to help you out either.

My guess is follow the guidelines for rides listed in the park maps, drink lots of water and get plenty of sleep including afternoon naps.;) ;)

thanks nancy13, and congrats to you too! :D

my bf thinks that this will put a damper our vacation, but i told him not to worry, we'll be in disney! (at the GF no less!)
i was thinking skip the coasters and the spinning rides, which make me dizzy anyway, and i should be fine. i have a dr's appt on thurs, so i'll be asking his advice, but he doesn't know disney like dis'ers!:D

Congrats to both of you!

I went to WDW in March of 2000 when I was 3 months pregnant and had a very enjoyable time. I did not go on any of the rides that didn't allow pregnant women (of course). Each day started out great as I had lots of energy in the morning. By about 11:00 I really started to drag and from then on, we just took our time going through the parks. I sat down quite often but had a great time people watching and took my time shopping! I never did have "morning sickness" but did get queasy a few times. I just sat down and sipped some diet coke and I was ready for more of WDW.

Have a great time but just be prepared to take it easy.

We are going back for the first time (this Novemeber) since I was pregnant last year but this time we will be taking our daughter who will be 15 months old at the time! We are prepared to take our time again but can't wait to share our love of WDW with our daughter!

Hi,
Maybe I can help. Been to wdw twice pregnant, both times during 2nd trimester (3 and 4 mos). By this time I didn't feel sick anymore and had more energy. There are a lot of rides and things you can do, just pay attention to the signs. Went to London with my husband on business when I was 9 weeks pregnant, a whole different story. This is a risky time, so you have to be careful, just made sure I got enough rest and drank a lot of ginger ale (pretty nauseas). My husband kept trying to make me walk instead of paying for a cab, men sometimes don't get it, at this point you can't see the evidence (still skinny), so he kept forgetting. Just kept telling him it's like having a hangover. He'd then say, "OHHH". If you feel tired, just sit down for a bit. But I was still able to tour, just a little bit slower. I'm normally a commando type so, I had to slow down at wdw being pregnant and it was a nice surprise to see things in that way! Have a great time!!!

I was at WDW last year 6 weeks pg and here is what I did... I drank LOTS OF WATER!!!! You don't want to get dehydrated. I avoided all rides that spun, coasters, etc. I also took it very easy and planned a nap every afternoon, being newly pregnant you get very tired very easily, and since you're staying on-site, it will be easy to go back for an afternoon nap. I also ate small snacks during the day to keep my blood suger up, it helped me with feeling dizzy and my morning sickness. I wish you luck and to have a very healthy nine months!!!!

thanks for the replies everyone! it's great to hear from people who've been in the same situation!

Thanks Crazywig:)

I just checked out www.wdwig.com/pregnant.htm there was some helpful hints as well as some ride restricitions listed. One of them is the Safari ride at Animal Kingdom my fave. thing at AK.

Oh well better safe than sorry!

Have fun !! but at G.F. who wouldn't?
Ours is an All Star vacation which our 3 year old should love.

4days and counting down.

Hi and congrats!!!! I went to WDW last Dec when I was about 8 weeks pregnant as well. I had been REALLY sick before our trip so I was very worried that this would put a huge damper on my trip. I must admit though, that as soon as I got through the gates at WDW, I instantly felt better--I think that was due to the fact that since I was so sick I was really cooped up in the house alot and getting to WDW was the first time out for me in a long time. I also thought that I wouldn't enjoy my trip as much since I wouldn't be able to go on alot of rides, this was true, but I still had a super time. I did go on the Test Track (after DH and Mom tested it for me), I found that I had no problem riding it and just adjusted my seat belt so that it was below my abdomen and braced my feet when they did the break test--it was a great "thrill" ride for me and really had no trouble with it at all. I also went on the Kilimanjaro Safari--it was pretty bumpy, but did ok on that as well--I wouldn't suggest riding it if someone was further along than 8 weeks or so. Other that that, I pretty much did all the slow, normal rides and drank LOTS of water and rested my feet when I could. I did find since I wasn't able to ride soe of the more thrill-like rides that I had more time to take the WDW atmosphere in and notice things that I didn't notice before while running around from ride to ride. Have a great time and congrats again!!!!

Congratulations!!! I have also been twice while pregnant and I would have to say the hardest park on me was EPCOT. It is just so huge and there is so much walking that you don't realize how much you've done until it's time to walk back to the exit and it just seems so FAR away! Just pace yourself and as the others said, drink a TON of water. That was my doctor's only advice because he says at least a few times a year, during the hot months, some of his expectant moms that go to Disney end up in the hospital down there with dehydration. Believe me, you will know where every restroom is down there, but it's worth it. Have a good time!

I actually found out I was pg while at WDW last year. Thankfully, the morning sickness didn't hit until we got home. Just don't over do it. Listen to your body. Rest and put your feet up as often as possible. Drink lots of water (if it doesn't make you sick!!) Just think while you're there of all the wonderful things you'll get to do on future trips with your precious child. Nothing compares to seeing the magic of Disney through your child's eyes! Congratulations. I hope you have an easy, care free pregnancy!

The first time I went to DL I was about 10 weeks and had a major case of 'all day sickness', make sure you eat small meals throughout the day rather then just the 3, drink plenty of liquids. Pack along some saltines and decaf. mint tea (Bigelow Plantation Mint in nice) for your room in the morning and evening as it is very soothing also I found ginger ale and coke helped calm an upset tummy. This may sound really strange but the only thing I could eat in the morning for the first 14 weeks was rice crackers with peanut butter on top, well it did provide protein...but after the pregnancy I never touch peanut butter again (until the next time) - LOL. Make sure you take a midday break off your feet.

Also when I travel well PG I always bring along a copy of my medical records just in case.
Have a great time :)

Congratulations!! I too was surprised to discover I was pregnant with my first child while I was planning my wedding!! That was 4 DD's ago!! I was 12 weeks pregnant with my 4th child when we went to WDW in '98. This was also a wonderful surprise pregnancy! I really wasn't sick until I got to WDW and was walking around in the heat of July! I took frequent breaks, which I had to anyway since we had one, two and seven year olds with us! I drank TONS of water!

I am normally a pretty healthy eater, but when I went to WDW pregnant, I could'nt get enough of the Chili Cheese Fries and Root Beer floats at the Pecos Bill Cafe! Ofcourse, I was sick after I ate them!!! LOL!!!

Enjoy this wonderful time!

Since you are staying at the Grand Floridian which is a pretty upscale place, I'm sure there are jacuzzi's on the premises?? Jacuzzi's are off-limits to preggos. Just wanted to be sure you knew that. It could be too hot for you to even desire such, but in case you've never been told, do not sit in water that hot!!

Happy, Healthy baby vibes!

thanks disney4us2002! i did not know that. i go to the dr's on thursday and my upcoming vacation will be at the front of my mind! going to disney puts about 25 more questions on my list to ask him!
thanks everyone for your replies so far!

crazywig--true the hot tubs are off limits, which bummed me out when I was pregnant during my visit to WDW last Dec, but I found that at the end of walking around ALL day that sticking my aching, swollen feet in the hot tub was perfect!!!!!! I made sure that I asked the dr. if just the feet was ok and he actually suggested it to keep at least some of me relaxed and trust me, it really helped after doing alot of walking.

I know it has been said before, but I just want to re-iterate, DRINK TONS OF WATER. And, when you get home, keep drinking water. Dehydration is a really bad thing when pregnant.

Two other suggestions, take a pregnancy reference book with you, just so you can assure yourself that the funny twinge is normal and take your doctor's phone number with you so you have it handy.

I'm leaving next week (actually, only five more days), and I will be 5 months pregnant. I saw my doctor last Friday, and he only said to drink lots of water. I asked about the rides, and he said not to worry about it! I still think I'll stay off of the thrill rides, although I might take the safari.

Hi Crazywig,

Congratulations!!!

I can't offer any advice about travelling when pregnant in the 1st trimester as I've only ever travelled when I've been from 24 - 31 weeks pregnant.

Oh no, just realised when we were on honeymoon in San Fransisco I discovered I was 5 weeks pregnant!!! A lovely surprise!! Didn't get any morning sickness whatsoever which is why I was convinced I wasn't pregnant until we had a blood test done in San Fran! (This was my 1st pregnancy and I didn't know what to expect!!) All I can advise is drink lots of water and eat small meals regularly. Make sure you rest when you need to and avoid all the rides etc. Now this is a bit of a bummer as I know! Every time I've visited WDW I've been pregnant and it's been a killer to watch everyone go on all the rides. UNTIL NOW!!!! Guess what we're going in 2 weeks and I'M NOT PREGNANT - Yeehaa!!!

Have a lovely holiday (I mean vacation!).

Love Lisa xx

p.s. also looking forward to buying some "normal" clothes for a change!!! By the way I've had 3 in the last 4.5 years.
