We all know that upgrades on Disney are "magical" so I thought it would be fun if we all shared our experiences with upgrades. How did it happen? How long before your cruise did you find out? What category were you upgraded to? Share your story!

In 98, our Honeymoon, we were booked into a Cat 10.

1 month before the cruise, they called us and told us that we had been upgraded to a Cat 6!!!!!!!!!

Needless to say, we were hooked on the verandah rooms ever since, and will never go to an inside stateroom.

In Dec 07 we were upgraded from a Cat. 9 to a Cat. 6! :goodvibes

On our first five cruises (2/99 - 12/07) we did not get upgraded. On our 6th cruise (12/07) we were upgraded from a 9 to a 6 and on our upcoming cruise we have been upgraded from a 12GTY to a 9.

we were upgraded from 12 to 9 on our honeymoon land/sea package. We were not told until we went into the wrong room so it was a pleasant surprise. We now try and book sph rooms.

On our October cruise we were upgraded from a category 9 to a category 5. We didn't know until we got our documents a few weeks before the cruise. And yes - it has spoiled me for other rooms. We booked category 5 again for our next cruise.

No upgrade for us :( but then again we are booked in a cat 4 so I didn't figure we would get one... they should upgrade us to a suite and then we'd be spoiled and book higher next time ;)

We booked a cat. 12 and ended up in a cat. 9. It was a blessing and a curse. Now that I've experienced the cat. 9; there is no way I'll want to stay in an inside room for future trips. We were so pleased and ended up getting my favorite picture (as seen to the left). :goodvibes

I keep dreaming of being upgraded to Cat 1, but I think I'll be dreaming of that for a long, long, long time.

Kinda hard to get upgraded from a Cat 1 suite.
:rolleyes1

on our first cruise in 1998 we were upgraded from a cat 3 to cat 1. We got spoiled and are just back from our 5th cruise, all in cat 1

Just once, our 1st cruise, Rang me about a week before we cruised, upgraded from Cat 10 inside to outside with Verandah. Glad they did, made us see what a waste of money outside cabins are for us. Used the verandah once for 10 mins. Always get a SPR if possible. never in room more than 8 hours to sleep and get changed.:goodvibes

I've been on the cruise twice, and no upgrade.

Is there anything different that you all are doing that we aren't? We already know our room number. Were you all assigned a room number, then upgraded? And all this was free, correct?

We've been upgraded at Disney before, but since we weren't assigned a room a million days in advance, it makes it easier.

Just wondering....

Nope...it's just the luck of the draw. I've been upgraded after I already had a cabin number and when I haven't had a cabin number. I haven't been upgraded in both situations as well. It really is random with no rhyme or reason to it.

And yes, if DCL chooses to upgrade you it is free. You only pay if you request the upgrade to a higher category.

Any of these upgrades on a three night???Or are they all longer, more expensive cruises....

How about CONNECTING rooms (2 cat. 10)... any chance?
I'll be happy with what we have , being our first time.
Just curious.

We've always been in cat. 5's. No upgrades, but I don't mind. I'd like to be optimistic about someday being updated to the Walt suite, though. ;)
