you be willing to pay per point for a confirmed reservation for a week at WDW over the 50th Anniversary?

Would the resort make a difference?

Would it matter if it was 100% non-refundable no matter the reason?

How far in advance would you be willing to commit?

Full disclosure: I do not rent, nor have I ever rented points and I am not a fan of spec rentals (even though I recognize the right of DVC Members to rent legally made confirmed reservations).

Discuss away!

I would not pay any extra and would certainly dig my heels against "non-refundable." No way, no how. I would not book with that restriction.

(For disclosure, I have a week reserved at our home resort ... but am not emotionally committed to making the cross-country travel.)

Even if i didn’t already have rooms booked, I would not pay for one,

I wouldn't at all but I am not interested in crazy crowds.

However, this thread has me thinking...many folks would pay to rent a DVC room. So maybe I should bump my Sept 1-8 trip to Sept 27- Oct 2. Then we can either go or rent it and have months to decide. Trip we did book is our 25th Anniversary but 3 weeks later we can still celebrate it. We have a few close family members with major health issues so....Sept 1-8 may not work out and it's less desirable to renters than the 50th anniversary week. Should I bump?

Are you booking a studio? If so, there isn't studio availability for Oct. 1st at any WDW resort. That's usually what brings the most interest for rentals.

I have a little FOMO, but assuming we get this virus thing under control, my kids have school then anyway. Will have to celebrate vicariously and virtually.

If you don't care when you go and the choice is a reservation over the 50th or another time, I think the 50th will be an easier reservation to rent out.
I bumped. Asked DH what he'd prefer. Our Anniversary there or WDW Anniversary there? He picked WDW 50th because we do Disney so much that it's nice to be there for something different. Later in Sept is cooler too (by just a hair). So we're booked at BWV from Sept 28-Oct 3. Also booked a CCV cabin (which I had for our 25th) for Sept 27th and hope to add the 26th with more BWV points at 7 months. Even got tix set (2 day so far) and made a MK park resie for Oct 1.

So I do see some value in that week. But I'd still want some sort of cancelation ability. I would pay more for the week. And I think committing far in advance is a good thing since you need to make that park resie before it books up.

I booked a week there that goes over the anniversary and didn't have any difficulty doing it, so I wouldn't pay any more for a confirmed reservation. I think the big problem was for those who only wanted the weekend so started looking on 30th October. My week starts a few days before and there seemed to be good availability at that point (BCV). I guess if we weren't members it might be a lot more tempting!

We weren't sure how bad the crowds would be and if we would cope, so we wanted at least a few days when it might be a bit quieter!

I don't like crowds, I hated doing NYE at DLP once and I'll never do it again. So fighting a crowd during an anniversary day doesn't appeal to me at all.
I guess the 50th will be either:
  • a special celebration only for the press
  • a special celebration where the press gets the best spots and a large crown will be able to stay far away and see nothing
  • the beginning of a year+ long celebration
  • nothing special, given they're cutting everything they can cut, given the financial situation
For every major annyversary, they've done the third option (think the DLR Diamond celebration or DLP 25th) so I don't see much of a point in going exactly on the anniversary day.

I don’t know why, but FOMO over the 50th has bitten me for sure!! My calm hubby, however, hates heat and crowds... and the 50th celebration is sure to have both. So, we opted to change our booking from the actual 50th to mid-November. There will surely still be special fun things going on, but we can enjoy it with less heat/people. I know it’s the right decision for us & I’m very happy with it... but oh that FOMO!!!! 🤪 I too will be celebrating vicariously 😏

So, @CarolMN, if I had chosen to be there, and I hadn’t purchased my own DVC points... I would definitely rent if you had a refundable reservation at Bay Lake or the Grand Floridian. I would not pay anything insane though. 😉

Have seen some confirmed spec reservations for the 50th asking over $30.00 pp and it made me wonder if there were actually people out there willing to pay this much. None of those reservations were even for nights in the castle, either. :)

That’s just crazy. But there always seem to be just enough crazies out there to keep shrewd people in business 🤪😂

Already booked. If not, I’d probably go with something thru CRO.
Normally, would say offsite at WBC etc. but I saw that passholder res are current ‘sold out’ for the 1st.

having been in MK for many past ‘milestone’ anniversary dates, it really is a FOMO thing.

YMMV but in the past, other than larger crowds, merchandise opportunities & some freebies (buttons, brochures); you would be hard pressed to realize anything ‘special’ was going on those dates if you randomly had wandered into the park those days.

Would be nice to see some extra-special FW ala 4th of July type (at Epcot...the big boomers :)) though

I had a confirmed reservation for last week of September ( including Oct. 1) 2021 that I rented out at Grand Floridian. Studio accommodations. I did not inflate my rental price, kept it very reasonable. No cancellation policy. Rented it out with no problems. Oct. 1 was a big factor in renting it out. But not enough to inflate the ppp.
