I REAAALLLY like the sound of the palo brunch, it looks sooo good and I really want to go to it. The thing is, I'm travelling with my best friend of the same gender. Will people get the wrong idea? Is the brunch usually a couples thing, because I can totally see the dinners being a mainly couples thing.

People get the wrong idea all the time with us (because 2 girls on a trip can only mean thing -eye roll-), but I seriously think that THIS would give the wrong impression...?

Not sure where you're from that same-gender travelling partners automatically implies life partnerships, :confused3 but we saw several tables of same-gender diners at Palo for both brunch and dinner when we were on the Wonder last month. One table of girls turned out to be at our regular dining table (we linked up with some from our DIS meet thread) and their husbands had gone golfing while they went cruising. Don't stress about what people think and enjoy yourself. Palo brunch is amazing, not really for couples so much as it is for foodies of any age (over 18) or gender or sexual preference. Sad that there won't be any on my next cruise since its only a 3 day ...

Is there anything wrong with being perceived as a couple? You know that you aren't, so go ahead and enjoy your Palos Brunch. Palos is not just for couples.

It's not just travelling, it's anywhere we go as we spend a lot of time together. People naturally assume we're together...some people even ask. They ask if we're sisters or if we're lesbians. Nobody ever asks if we're friends (been best friends for 10 years now). I just thought it would be weird or out of place as palo is more of a romantic setting...

but we're not a couple. haha, that's the thing. I just don't want to seem out of place.

Richard Feinman said it best "I don't care what other people think!"

I have a friend who has that happen all the time. They just enjoy it and go with it. Go and enhoy yourselfs and don't worry about it.

Don't know the exact amount of tables, but at a casual glance I'd say that it has an equal amount of 2-tops and 4-tops, and I think even a few tables that would seat more ... maybe somebody can find you a schematic. It can be romantic I suppose but the DH and I don't really consider stuffing ourselves the way we do at Palo terribly romantic, the food is just so good! :rotfl:

  • It's not just for couples
  • Brunch isn't exactly what I would call romatic
  • Who cares what anyone thinks!

The last one is just my opinion,

HAHA! I guess I'm okay, then. I eat all in sight, some people have to watch their fingers :rotfl2:

Thanks! Although I watched a sitcom that said brunch is more of a couples thing...then proceeded to make fun of the fact that two men going to brunch was just weird. Haha, it sounds worse than it was, it was quite funny.

Happens to a friend and me all the time. Usually we ask an equally rude question back, and that is always the end of it. Have fun, and if someone takes issue with it, well, they will get over it..... or they won't. Not your problem.

ANOTHER QUESTION!!!

What do you wear for brunch at palo!? Is it formal like dinner!?

A few years ago I cruised with my best friend. She was partially disabled and had always wanted to cruise and was afraid to go by herself. DH couldn't get vacation time, so she and I had a wonderful cruise. We enjoyed our Palo brunch, and even had a lovely chat with the Captain while we were there. I'm sure some people probably thought we were a couple. When people asked if we were sisters, we both automatically replied "No, she's my mother!" Since we were both approximately the same age, people just laughed and walked away. Whatever they thought was their problem. She has since passed away and I'm very glad that I was able to help her achieve her dream, even if we did get a few strange looks now and then--more, I suspect, because we were two big kids having a great time!

As for dress, I agree with business casual. It's a wonderful meal, don't pass it up just because you're two people of the same gender!

Thank you so much, beth! Both for you opinion and story, it made me smile. Sorry that your friend passed, though. I'm glad you could spend such a wonderfully memorable time with her :)

and thank-you to everyone else! I officially decided, that when I am able to book for palo, I will :)

I have eaten in Palo with my mother, my husband, solo and with my cruise roomie. I have no idea if anyone thought anything about me, anytime. My roomie and I ate there 4 times on our last cruise, 2 dinners, 2 brunches. If someone thought we were lesbians, they didn't ask us. If someone thought we were friends, they didn't ask. Honestly, I am too busy paying attention to me and whomever I am with to notice anyone else, in Palo or the MDRs, the pools, the theater, etc. Go and do what you want!

I had brunch with my sister -- she came with me and my 3 girls in July since DH and DS were on Safari.

We had a great time and it was a much different type of enjoyable than if I were with my husband. With my sister I have no problem trying every single dessert (wouldn't do that with DH, LOL).

I don't know what people thought and I really don't care.

Speaking for myself, there could have been aliens giving birth at their table and I wouldn't have noticed. Toooooo much amazing food!

The Palo Brunch is WONDERFUL and worth every penny. my wife & I try to schedule one every cruise so far we are 5 for 6.

But back to your original question: why should you care what some people, who you will never see again, think?

Just Go & Enjoy and have a Mimosa on me. :cool1:
