Hi All!!!
So I was in Disney World this past week, and my now Fiancee, proposed!! It was a dream come true, and now I can not wait to start planning the wedding. We both know without a doubt that it will be in Disney World, but that's about all we know at this point. So my question to all of you is where do I begin??

Is it important to have an idea for when we want our wedding or about how big it is before I call DFTW to get the proper information to get started on the planning parts? Also, I've seen some other posts about getting Carrie's book so I am definitely going to that, but are there any other good sites or things to look at about how to get started with this whole process?

We're super excited, and any help or advice at all would sooo appreciated!! Thanks!!! :goodvibes

Great! Thanks so much for letting me know! I'll definitely check that out!

i think it would probably be a good idea to get a rough idea of your budget, your guest count, what date and where you want to have your wedding!

your budget and guest count will give you an indication about whether you will have an escape wedding or a wishes wedding.

this also has an effect on when you can get in touch with disney, wishes is 16 months and escape is 9 months.

you hopeful date will effect your planning process too, as you might not be able to contact Disney just yet!

It might be a good idea to have a think about venues, or schedule a site visit if you are within disney's planning timeline.

if you visit carrie's website, disneytravelbabble, you can see great venue photos!

My number one piece of advice: sit down with your fiance and figure out what is important to you, and then figure out how much you have to spend!!! Budget is very important!! My fiance and I sat down, and to me, the guest list and photography was important, and to him, the food and videography was important. But then, unfortunately, we didn't know what we were really dealing with money wise and I made a huge guest list when he wanted smaller, and he picked out all these foods and I was like, "That's too much!" Lol... luckily everything worked out and we learned the meaning of compromise over and over again.

But sit down with your fiance and figure out what's important to you and start talking money. Also, now is the time to sit down with parents and/or anyone else who is helping financially with the wedding. Figure out how much they are contributing, and also ask yours and his family if there is anything that's important to them... for instance, my family had small requests that were important to them (ie. my stepmom wanted my brother to escort her in, my Dad wanted to make sure he was giving me away and that I wasn't going to walk down the aisle by myself, lol)... let them have their say and put in their requests, but also understand that it's your day and you and your fiance get the final say! :-)

Congratulations!!!! Isn't getting engaged at Disney the best? You can see mine in the video link in my signature!!! :-)

Congratulations on your engagement!! My advice is have fun planning - so many people get too stressed out and forget to enjoy this time.

Figure out your bunch and you and your fiance figure out what is the most important aspects of your wedding!

Thanks so much for all the input and advice! I guess the first thing we really have to do is figure out how big we want our wedding, and who all will be involved so we know what exactly we're planning for haha.

And yes, getting engaged at Disney would is certainly the best! You're proposal is adorable!!!! Mine actually took place on a private boat that my fiancee rented out and it went out from the GF and positioned us right in front of the castle, and then during Wishes he proposed, it was so magical!!!
