As luck will have it, I have just been diagnosed with Celiac Disease. All reservations have been made in February.

Our reservations include: O'hana, Cape May Clam Bake, Teppan Edo, Boatwrights, Mama Melrose, Crystal Palace Breakfast and Wishes Dessert Buffet.

Does any one have any advice to give on Gluten Free options for these places.

If you go down to the DisAbilities board, I think you will find all kinds of info about Celiac disease and eating at WDW. There is a FAQ sticky with some info as well as several recent threads on the subject.

Sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis. But the good news is that now you will be able to take the appropriate steps to learn how to live with it.

I've heard if you call the restaurant ahead of time and let them know about your allergy, they will made sure to have the chef come out and talk to you about your food options. AllEars also has some great reviews from people who've had experience dining with celiacs.

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis - my husband was diagnosed a few years back and while it was difficult at 1st to get used to, he started feeling better within a month of eating gluten free. We have also found that there are now many gluten free products available to purchase (even products from 'mainstream' names like Betty Crocker)

As the previous poster suggests there is a lot of information on the DisAbilities section of the boards.

In our experience it is very easy to eat gluten free in WDW- a few tips:

Note your reservation with your wheat/gluten intolerance - a chef will come to your table and discuss what your options are

Contact specialdiets@disneyworld.com -feel free to ask questions of them, they have in the past been very helpful when we had questions about special events we were attending - I would definitely ask them if they could arrange for dessert items for you at the Wishes Dessert buffet. They will also send you a listing of available gluten free items.

Don't be shy about asking to speak with a manager at a quick service restaurant - they will oversee the preparation of your meal

My DH has had wonderful breakfasts and dinners at 'Ohana. Mama Melrose can prepare gluten free pastas. The chef will walk you through the buffet at Crystal Palace - you will have many choices and the chef will even prepare something for you back in the kitchen if you are concerned about the possibility of cross contamination. Not sure about the other restaurants as we haven't eaten there.

Best of luck to you

Thank you all for your feed back. We were there last year and really enjoyed all of the goodies. I was planning to do a cupcake thread.:rotfl2: I am a bit disappointed but at this juncture, I want to get better and not take an imodium a day (like I did last year )

Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I am so glad that you were diagnosed with CD, it was one of the best health thing that happened to me. I lived for 15 years thinking it was crohn's disease and spent my entire life sick with stomach issues. Once I went gluten free so many things resolved themselves.

I love eating at DW, they make it so easy. Every restaurant I went to they were more than accommodating and all of my meals were great. I think you will find it easy to eat at any of those restaurants. At restaurants with buffets the chefs would walk me through and show me what I could eat and sometimes make me some things special that they could easily alter to be gluten free. For menu restaurants the chef came out and told me what was gluten free or could be altered to be GF. In some ways I liked the buffets as I had so many more options and could try a little of everything.

Good luck! I am glad you have been diagnosed and hope you feel better really soon!

My Mom went with us on our last trip, and was amazed as to how well she ate.

Everything has already been said. The most important thing would be to make sure it is mentioned on your reservations.

My mom has CD and had a wonderful trip to Disney. The only place we ran into an issue was at Biergarten, where the Chef directed us that something was Gluten Free, which was not. Unfortunatley my mom had a rough next day.

Prior to the trip we worked with the email listed above for special diets at Dinsey and we spoke with a Chef at each restaurant we dined at.

The other thing I wanted to share with you is that you don't need to give up on cupcakes!! In DTD Babycakes has wonderful GF pastry. My mom loved it!

My daughter has a wheat allergy (not celiac) and has never had any problems eating at Disney. We always note it on our ressies and the chef comes out and speaks to her about her allergy and what she would like. Sometimes she is able to order off the menu and the meal is prepared separately and wheat-free. Other times they aren't able to accommodate the change and offer her other options. The toughest part are the CS meals, but so far we have been able to be creative. There is a listing of CS places that do offer gluten-free and can be found on allears. What I appreciate about the chefs/managers at Disney is the way they make her feel special rather than bothersome.

My husband has celiac's (almost 30 years now) and we love traveling to FL for all the gluten free and gluten free friendly spots there!

You should be fine but I want to describe the gluten free Wishes dessert plate he got for you...he was really concerned that they would just show him on the buffet there what is gluten free (which wouldn't be much) but instead they brought him out his own plate:

It included fruit, three large slices of cake (Chocolate, Vanilla, and Spice), two triangular brownies, granny apple sorbet and a raspberry sorbet, chocolate chip cookie)...very nice and beautifully presented.

Hope that helps ease your mind on the dessert buffet anyway!

I would not bother with the waffles at CP they are the frozen Van's waffles. Now the Ohana and Cape May breakfasts both have Mickey waffles that are gluten free takes just like regular.

Mama Melrose had gluten free pasta in the past.

Call and have the allergy added to all of your reservations. Contact special diets and they can give you list of gluten free items in the parks. At CS ask for the manager when you order. It will take longer.

I would suggest going to the disABILITIES Forum and look at Post #3 of the disABILITIES FAQs. There is a large section in that post dealing with special dietary needs, as well as many related links. You can get directly to the disABILITIES FAQs by following the link in my signature.

This is a very common topic of discussion in the disABILITIES Forum.

Hopefully, I am allowed to say this. Coincidentally I was just looking at the menu for Unos, which is close to downtown Disney and was impressed to see that they have gluten free pizza.
