I am an automotive engineer for one of the big three. I have survived several downsizings so far. Looking forward to visiting WDW does help me through the busy times! I am trying a bit of writing on the side too.

DH has survived the downsizing (GM for him), including what they called "black monday" -very scary seeing people right and left be escorted out-simply because he's so underpaid that it doesn't make sense to get rid of him
AT least that's our theory So we live on the salary, play on the OT

Bobbiwoz--my dad's plant turned Delphi, and then they "convinced" him to retire about 5 years ago. My stepmom just took a buyout last year. They're thrilled to be away from the drama finally.

Best wishes to you and your DH!!! Our hardest years were the ones when the Trenton NJ plant was due to close. The rumors and fears lasted for years, and finally, we bailed out of NJ and came to Ohio, to be "Safe." Well, there's no safety now, but we are close to retirment time. DH likes his job, for as long as it will last, and I very much enjoy teaching p/t, so we're really fine.

Right now I'm considered an actuarial student since I'm still in the exam process. But I hope to officially be called an actuary by next summer!

Both DH & I are small business owners - we both work full time at our warehouse - we own 4 mail order retail stores - all are internet based - two children's specialty stores and 2 Christmas stores. It funds our Disney habit. LOL
