Thought I'd "do my homework" and find out what buildings are preferred at the Poly and why.

Thanks.

After much research, and staring at the map for about a hundred and seven hours, I decided that Tokelau would be the best building for my family. It's the most central of all the buildings at the Polynesian. We were less than a five minute walk to the Great Ceremonial House, the volocano pool, the monorail to the Magic Kingdom, and the boat dock. Our room was also a short walk (maybe seven minutes) to the Ticket & Transportation Center. It's also about two minutes from the bus stop, the laundry room, arcarde, and child care center.

We lucked out and got one of the garden view rooms that actually has a lagoon view in Tokelau. We were able to see the lagoon and the Grand Floridian from our room. The rooms in Tokelau and the two other newer buildings closer to the Ticket & Transportation Center are bigger than the rooms in the other buildings.

Overall, my family was very thrilled with our location. My sister and her family stayed in the same building a week after us, and they agreed it was a great choice.

My favorite is Raratonga. It is right next to the GCH and a quick walk to the volcano pool and right next to the quiet pool. This trip we are going concierge so it is Hawaii for me!

I only stayed at the Poly once. After much research, I deceided to request Samoa. They gave us a first floor room on the quiet pool side. It was perfect. The building is no more that a two minutes from either pool, the GCH and Captain Cooks. Some have posted hearing noise from the Volcano Pool until late at night, but we didn't hear any. If I go back to the Poly, I would definately request Samoa again.

After many visits to the Polynesian resort, and having stayed in all building except rapa nui, I really prefered our last stay's on the left side of the great ceremonial house, ( heading toward GF). Yes away from the prefered pool sites. Usually we always request to be by the pool, but after 3 attempts at tokelau building and the 3 worst poly trips ever I will never request it again. The building is too booked. Too crowded and way too noisy! Yes its a good location very central, but with almost everyone requesting it it is always full. We would check the light quotion at nite, and in comparison to other buildings it is packed.

Our last 2 trips this year we where in figi and aorotoa (sp?) and they were wonderfully peaceful. great views, waterview at garden prices, no crowds, and the luau music in the background very subtly at nite was perfect!

We love the Poly and the pools ;) and would like the view to, but the quiet is much more worth it. :teeth:

We stayed in Niue (right btween the two pools and very close to GCH and beach as well). That's where we'd stay again if we went back!

We stayed third floor Tahiti and LOVED the view. Seeing Wishes from the comfort of our balcony was fabulous.:bounce:

I also enjoyed the 2 minute walk to the TCC. We spend almost every second in the park so it was the perfect place for us.

If you plan on spending any time at the resort, pool, eating etc. there are better choices. The walk back from the pool with wet tired toddlers was a little long. If we ate at the resort the trek to the great house was at least 5 minutes and IMHO at night pretty dark. My DD's 6 and 4 were scared.

For us, we stayed at Rapa Nui, and LOVED the location. It was a bit further from the pools, but just a very short walk to TTC. It was also close to laundry and the arcade.

We always stay at the Poly. We usually get our requests and never book anything more than a garden view room. We have stayed in Niue. This is now smoking and since one ds has asthma its out of the question. But if you smoke, its very convenient to the GCH, pool and captain cooks. We have stayed in Aeotoroa. As the other poster says you can get a water view at a garden view price but I dont know how that happened. Good for them, but we got the monorail view garden view. I heard the swoosh of the monorail going by, but I do think those rooms are the biggest or at least seemed to be and the music annoyed me from the luau. Its o.k. once but not if you are there for a week or more, it can get old pretty fast and its a long walk to the pool, laundry and new bus stop. This august we had samoa. I asked for pool view and got 1st floor. I explained ds asthma and wanted him to be able to get back to the room asap if he exerted himself too much swimming. It was perfect for us. We did not notice any extra pool noise. It was a hop, skip and jump to captain cooks for mug runs and snacks. It was a little further away from the new bus stop. We did cut through rarotonga and that bldg. was definetely closer to the new bus stop, so if you have little kids, and are lugging lots of stuff, like strollers, bags etc. You might want to consider that bldg. It depends what you are looking for. I am definetely asking for samoa again or rarotonga (I don't know if this bldg. has been or is due for rehab. Have you checked tikimans site. ). Also if you choose samoa, note that the 2nd floor does not have a balcony.

for garden view, Raratonga is great. Right next to the GCH, close to the pools, on the TTC side, and very convenient to the parking lot.

My vote goes for the Samoa building. We just returned and had third floor overlooking the volcano pool. just a two mintue walk to GCH and the restaurants and shops and monorail.

We stayed in Aotearoa..Last building before the Luau Cove...I had the 3rd floor, just past the elevator..had a balcony...could see the fireworks and GF and Seven Seas Lagoon...room was garden rate!!! Was nice and quiet...see ALL EARS NET description below:

Aotearoa (ow-TAY-a-row-a; formerly Tahiti)
This building is very close to the Great Ceremonial House, especially Captain Cook's. It is also near Luau Cove, and you may be able to hear the sounds of the Luau. If you are trying to get the to the Transportation & Ticket Center, it can be a bit of a walk. Rooms on the northern side face the garden or the lagoon. Some rooms here face Cinderella Castle and the Grand Floridian. Rooms facing south overlook the gardens and the monorail, some looking at the road. This is a non-smoking building. There are no balconies on the second floor. Aotearoa had a total rehab in 2002.

Boy, am I embarassed! I don't know how I got Niue into my head. We stayed in the Samoa, which really is the one right between the two pools! Blame it on age (or that lack of mental capacity that comes with having four kids).

My vote is now with ratpack and johhnyr for SAMOA!;)
