It's late at night, and I'm not sure how this would work...

has anyone figured out how many points one would have to own in order to stay year round in a one bedroom or two bedroom unit at OKW?

I'm thinking about my retirement in 20 years...and wondered about starting to acquire the necessary points...

I just decided to try the DVC-PC...and this is what it came up with:

One Bedroom - 10,324 points
Two Bedroom - 13,989 points...

In dollar costs (at $72/point):

One Bedroom: $743.328 :earseek:
Two Bedroom: $1,007,208 :earseek:

But wait, there's more!!!

Yearly Maintenance costs - at the current (2004) rate of $3.6841 per point):

One Bedroom: $38,034.65 :bounce:
Two Bedroom: $51,536.88 :bounce:

It's doable... but needing $51 K a year before food, medical, etc...could be a bit dicey.

Anyone up to try this experiment?

Bill, Bill Gates? Is that you?

Of course as well, there are limitations on how many DVC points you can actually own - not sure what they are but they do exist

thanks

Just remember that he can bank points and borrow points so therefore he would only need to own 1/3 the points that you mentioned...::MickeyMo

I believe that it is 2000 points max.

However if we got 7 different people with 2000 points each to link their reservations together, they could all share a 2 BR.

7 Strangers living together..... Hmmm sounds like an idea for an MTV series.

The max is 2000 per resort per person with a total max of 5000 DVC points per person. That means a couple could potentially own 10000 DVC points. If dp1don's calculations are correct, that is almost enough for a one bedroom for the entire year. Maybe one could "rent" the extra points - no DVC-imposed limitations n that!

DVC also has written into the contract that you cannot permanently live at a DVC resort or use it as your residence. So, that means we'll have to figure in enough movement between resorts (including HHI and Vero) to get around that issue. ;)

Thanks to Caskbill's planner it only took 5 seconds to figure it out..........1 year in a Beach Cottage at VB would be 28,333 pts.

Actually, WDW gets kind of hot in the summer. How about staying for a few months in the winter? Lots of retirees do that where we live-they're called "Winter Texans". How about "Winter DVCers"? How many points for that? And that's not permanent.

For OKW for 3 months (Jan-Feb-March-avoiding Premier
time) .........using Caskbill's planner...

Studio-1261 pts
1BR-2522 pts
2BR-3421 pts
GV-5718 pts

The "DVC Top 20" can easily do this with banking and borrowing for the studio and 1BR.::yes::
