Feel free to ignore this if it's too personal a question, but...

You mentioned twice on the last email show that you need put on your glasses to read the emails.

Didn't you just have cataract surgery and pay extra for the lens implants (ReZoom & ReStor) that allow you freedom from reading glasses?

Just curious.

I did have cataract surgery on both eyes.

My right eye has healed very well. My left eye had to have a second surgery and is still in the healing process.

Prior to the cataract surgey, I had astigmatism in both eyes. The DR recommended something called LRI (Limbal Relaxation Incisions) surgery concurrent with the cataract surgery. This would have meant additional incisions in my eye which would have supposedly corrected the astigmatism. As this is considered elective surgery and would not have been covered, I decided to wait as the DR said that the cataract surgery could correct the astigmatism anyway.

In addition, I understand that my eyes are developing scar tissue around the lenses, which I'm told is very common. I have also been told that this would be removed with a laser procedure after a three month healing process.

The glasses I refer to are what I affectionately call "drugstore glasses". They are cheap magnifying glasses that I use when the the light is lower. I can actually read well in brighter light, but the podcast recording studio tends to be a bit darker....especially by the time of day that we get to the email show, which is the only time I really need to read anything.

My Mom had cataract surgery on both eyes. She had worn glasses her whole life! It's been amazing that now she can SEE - but she does need to wear reading glasses now, which she didn't have to do before.

but it's pretty amazing!

now, if we could only getting hearing aids for her that worked that well, sigh.....

Hey Kevin...you and I share the same thing. The eye doctor says that the scar tissue happens because we are so young. And most people our age don't have cataract surgery. I am in my late 30s. Anyway, PM me and let me know how the laser procedure goes. I am a little nervous to have that done. I have had so many eye surgeries, causing loss of sight in one eye, so I am a little apprehensive when I have to have anything done on the good eye. Believe me I told them to drug me when I had the cataract surgery done and it ended up being so simple.

Here to good eye sight. :thumbsup2

The laser is nothing compared to the cataract surgery. Most of my patients' reaction to the laser is: "That's it?!"

Here's a little sercet - you don't have to wait 3 months for the laser. It's usually a billing issue. Some insurances make you wait the 90 days, but most of the times, when a MD says to wait, it's because the payment is more once the 90-day post-op period is complete.

I don't make my patients wait the three months if the visual disturbance is at all bothersome. So I get paid a little less... big deal.

My mom just had cataract surgery on her right eye yesterday. If I am remembering correctly they inserted two different lenses (one was to correct her astigmatism). She was doing well afterwards and was surprised that she could already see so much better within a few hours of having the procedure done. I believe they are doing the left eye in two weeks, but only one lens will be used. Poor thing, once her eyes are finished she's moving down the list and getting a knee replacement done!

I was told that the laser procedure was done three months after the surgery as that allowed the time to make sure the lens would not move.

I dont know if this is typical, but I had the problem of the lens in the left eye "sunseting" or settling into the wrong position. This is what necessitated the second surgery on that eye.

I will be glad to put this behind me.

Hopefully, after the laser capsulotomy, you'll just be going to your eye MD for annual checkups.

Wish you the best.
