Just checked rental car rates in Phoenix......I may need CPR!!!

Found the best deal with Budget, a "street fleet" Mustang for $83 a day BEFORE the $40 a day in taxes.

Of course, I have a Hertz Premium full sized in Houston for 3 days before this for $65 a day and only $17 a day in taxes.

Keep checking. We live here, but decided to rent for our last trip DL to save wear and tear on our other cars. Just about three weeks ago we paid $90 total for 3 days. Not sure if it was because of the time of year or the fact that it was very last minute, but we jumped on that rate. It was from Payless, but even costco had low prices.

I don't know about Phoenix, but last month we had to go to San Antonio for a weekend and car rental prices were ridiculous there as well, over $200 for a mid-size Friday-Monday. I booked one just in case, checked back every couple of days and got that price down to around $125 for two days (we decided we didn't need it once we were staying downtown). Two days before the trip, I went on Priceline, used name your own price and was able to get a small SUV (Jeep Liberty) for $15/day, was $61 with taxes and it was through Hertz. Saved a ton, then cancelled the one I had reserved the regularly way, also through Hertz.

Former Phoenix Enterprise employee... March is the busiest month so super pricey. The airport and local offices will sell out and be turning people away. You might look at prices at local branches vs the airport. The airport has like a 35% tax rate vs 18% at the off site branches, or that's what it was 8 years ago!

I know what you mean. The tax is outrageous. I am looking into getting a shuttle service to the hotel and then getting the rental at the hotel. Does enterprise still have the delivery service?

Check offsite if you can.....
Lots cheaper (learned from years of visiting family in Phoenix).
Might be cheaper to get a cab and have them take you to a closer off site airport car rental place. It is the taxes for airport that cause the rates to go up...last time I did this.
Picked up car at off location and returned to airport...used codes and saved lots!
