Not true, I have never used my AAA agent to book my trips, but have always gotten the AAA discount on my rooms. Any travel agent and even you can get the discount when it is available. :earsboy:

You can get the AAA discount on the room only portion of your trip, booking on your own, or through a TA. If you are booking a package, and want to get the AAA discount, you need to go through the AAA office.

I was quoted a AAA rate if $119 and change with tax for the moderate room rate at the end of August ( last week Aug-rate change). That's about $850 for 7 nights. Are your kids under 10? 10 and up is $35/day. for dining Even if you paid 35/day for each member of your family for 7 days it should be about $1000. Better see what they are charging you for a one day pass. $2400 definately seems too high. I would have it all repriced. Don't give up, there must be an explanation. Also - room rates are higher before 8/28. I know they don't always offer the AAA room discount for certain moderate resorts (like CSR). Good luck!

Another thing you might want to consider is using a TA like Small World Travel. I have used them many times and they always get me good deals. Before we had AP's they got us good AAA rates, now they find us good AP rates/codes. They keep track of the codes so you don't have to. They can give you some good advice about which resort might fit your needs. We stayed at Pop in January and our kids loved it. Room size between the values and the moderates didn't seem that different, but the moderates had a lot of other things to offer. It just depends on what you are looking for in a resort besides rooms. I would rather stay at a value and go then wait but that's just me! Small World can give you a quote and you don't pay them a commission, they make their money from Disney. Just something to consider, good luck!

If you don't mind staying off site, you should look into timeshare tour deals. Sometimes the savings alone can warrant renting a car to get around. Plus they generally come with a full kitchen and 2 free park tickets as well as additional discount tickets. The Vistana, Orange Lake and Summer Bay are a few of the nicer ones. Just make sure you'll be staying at the resort and not a hotel. There's a guy I've made arrangements with before who did a great job for me at fletcher tours. Just go to that website and shoot him an email.

You have to go on a 2 hour tour of the resorts, but if you firmly tell them you are not interested or you will look for a resale on your own, they let you go and the rest of the week is yours to enjoy. Also you want to make sure that there are no extra fees/taxes per person or per night. They offer transporataiton to the parks but the schedule is very limited or you have to pay so don't count on this perk. Just a thought, as I have done it myself in a pinch.

If you stay at the Hilton Resort at DD you can get the extra magic hours and free transportation. I've seen rooms as cheap as $89 a nite.

Hope it helps. :wave2:

Well i booked through AAA for August 2-13 at the Port Orleans Riverside, with 8 day park hopper plus and the dining package for 10 nights. It is me and my wife, and kids 9, 6 and 2. My cost was right at $3400 for everything. It was slightly cheaper than going through Disney.

I am soo upset. I just had to cancel a reservation for August. I called disney and aaa for a package and the price was thru the roof. I put a hold on these packages and then did the math.
WOW- I was being charged almost $170 per night for a moderate hotel. Last year I paid half of that. I called back today to cancel and see if an error was made and was told that the pricing was correct.
I was quoted $2400 for 7nights, 1day park tickets and the meal plan for 2 kids and 2 adults. I already have my tickets. After that I would have to get air. Doesn't this seem high for the room and meal plan???
All the commercials and ads are saying how inexpensive it is this year. IGUess not! I am so upset, I guess we'll have to wait until next year!!

I am so sorry to hear this.. I just paid off our first trip there woohoo! I went through disney.com...got airline tickets round trip for 3 plus 3 day passes for each(not hoppers) and hotel for 1970 somthing.. I thought that was a good price.. We will be staying at the POP. I am also going to call back and add dinning ..hoping to get a pin soon, but I am sure that wont happen... so for about 2500.00 we are going for 3day parks and 4 day hotel.. not too bad.. now if only I could convince dh of that lol. GL with you planning...check out some of the web sites that have been mentioned. I was going to book each different ( travelocity is awesome) but I got so tired of trying to plan it all I just said forget it let disney do it for me lol... Sure hope you get to go!Sending pixie dust your way with a prayer..

I decided to do a sudden trip with my family (6/17-6/21) and called AAA. I ended up with 4 nights at POR, 5 day tickets w/ PH option and 4 days dining (we're not arriving early enough or leaving late enough for the 5th day) and it cost me just a bit over $1500. We're 2 adults, 1 child (7) and 1 little guy (2.5). Room is $149/night before AAA discount (15%), tickets were around $228/adult; $191/child and dining was $320.

We stayed off site in December and are staying off site again this November, but I wanted a short on site trip this time, so we're doing a moderate. I'm pretty pleased with the package as a whole, although I'd have loved to have saved the $320 with a free dining pin code. Ah, well.

I definitely think there are ways to cut costs and I would definitely recheck your numbers. Also DD hotels are a good choice, but you have to rely on their transport and it's not as efficient as on site hotels.

Good luck.

WOW! we paid 160 a night through AAA at the Wilderness Lodge for AUG 12-17. did you check the AAA website?
