Just cancelled (and holding acct ??)

Hi ~
I, regrettably, had to cancel my 4 night HH studio ressie for May 23-27, 2004. We have a very serious family illness and unfortunately it just took a turn for the worst so I had to cancel with it being less than 30 days. Thus, my 48 points went into "holding".
My plan now is to add on to our Nov stay at OKW, but my points are held up until Sept when I'm allowd to make the reservation add-on. I meant to ask MS when I should call. I want to add-on to the front of the stay----namely 2 extra nights in a 2 bedroom for Oct 31 and Nov 1. I'm not even sure if I'll get this 60 days out, but what is the earliest day exactly in Sept that I can call ? I'm not sure in this case if it's 60 days from check-in or check-out. I've never had any points in holding before so this is new to me. Thanks for any help.
On a side note, hope some lucky person on these boards might be able to get my HH studio if they're on a wait list----I know that week was sold out for studios. MS closes at 3:45 pm est today.

I'm terribly sorry to hear you've got someone ill.

I looked up the Holding Account info. It's 60 days or less from CHECK-IN. (They can't be banked or borrowed and will expire at the end of your Use Year).

My calculation is that August 31 would be the first day for Oct. 31. If you want to book both days at the same time, September 1 would be the day. Even if they don't have it when you first call, just get on the waitlist for OKW (or elsewhere if you have the points). At the 30 day mark, more rooms may open up.

Thanks Becca and Pam. It's my mil---they gave her 2-5 months to live. She's been living with cancer for 2 years now and doing pretty well. It was suddenly that she took a turn for the worst. We've brought her in to live with us on hospice status.

As for the info, thanks Pam. I'll be sure to call around the 8/31 or 9/1 date. Here's another question that I'm not sure is "DVC legal". Can I book these days now (borrowing from 2005 points) and then switch/exchange the 2005 points for the holding account points 60 days out ? Then the 2005 points can be returned to that use-year ? I'm thinking this is probably not allowed though. I'm just concerned I won't get my days in Nov.

I think the time you want to go might be possible to add on with waitlisting.

Sorry to hear about your mil, how tragic.

To answer your latest question, you can never unbank or unborrow points. I think you will be ok for the 1st but we are booked in a studio for the 31st and there were slim pickings at the other resorts a month ago when I booked. Things change so I would hold hope that things will work out.

We had a similar situation last year. My FIL passed away at home after battling cancer so bravely for the third time. We are DVC members as are my DSs sister and her hubby. They had a trip scheduled and had to put it on hold as they were scheduled to check in on the day he was buried. We called the DVC and spoke to them. Their points were just put back into their account---no restrictions! Call MS and explain your situation--you never know, hopefully you will get the same answer BIL and SIL got.

I want to thank everyone for your kind words and prayers. We're all hanging in there pretty well so far. My kids are dealing with all of this better than I thought they would. I'm very proud of them these past couple weeks.
My belated condolences to you and your family also Doc.

Perhaps I will call MS tommorrow and explain the situation in detail ? Never know what they'll say I suppose. If I can't get the 10/31 or 11/1 dates for the OKW 2 bedroom, maybe we'll just do cash at one of the resorts----I was just hoping not to have to move around, but if it's only for the first night it wouldn't be so bad.
