I asked for any available deluxe or moderate and the CM had one Lodge room at GF, a few GV rooms at the Poly(no Conc. or LV rooms), no CR rooms and one room at the Fort Wilderness. There are rooms at the Swan & Dolphin but I was hoping to be on the monorail with 2 little kids and my husband not going on this trip. What on earth could make it this crowded? The CM said that this is how it is looking for next few months. I'm not sure it's worth the $1500 in airfare for 48 hrs and large crowds. By the way- No discounts(AP, Codes etc.) were available at any resort. Thoughts? Threehearts

I thought I heard there was a large cheerleading/dance competition that weekend. Not sure about what else. You could maybe search these boards - seems like there has been talk of this for the last few days.

Don't take this the wrong way but I wouldn't pay $1500 for airfare for a two day trip at anytime, crowded or not. I would wait til I could stay longer and maximize the value. That is just alot of money to spend for a couple of days. :earseek:

We never would normally spend this much on airfare but my husband is on a several weeks business trip to Japan, he lives in NYC during the week and I'm down in DC with the kids and I'm having surgery soon and just wanted to cheer us all up. I definitely do not want to spend that kind of money if it will be very crowded in the parks since I didn't expect that in early February. I'm not sure there is a real low season anymore. You know, I wouldn't care so much about the full resorts/?parks except that the trip is so short. Lots of thinking to do over the next day. Thanks so much for your opinions. Susan

I'm going this week too. I heard there are several big conventions in town and a few cheerleading competitions too. The rooms are supposed to be booked up, but the parks aren't supposed to be too bad. I'm from Louisiana, we are out of school for the Mardi Gras Holidays. Lots of other Louisianians are supposed to be going too. There's also the Superbowl in Jacksonville, so that may be where some of the rooms are going too. That isn't that far of a drive. Some people may be planning on spending a day or two at Disney and Sunday at the game. Good Luck in whatever you decide.

Threehearts,

Good luck with the surgery. I would say, try to find something else to do with your kids that might be closer by. Even if that just means going to a Holiday Inn for those two days and let the kids swim at the inside pool and then go out to eat at night. Do something fun that you all like to do. WDW will always be there when you get back on your feet after the surgery.

If you really want to go, then you should. I think stephill is right. It probably is a bunch of events going on and the parks won't be too bad. Good luck. :wizard:

I had a family come into my tanning salon to get sprayed today....they are off to Dinsney tomorrow for some big dance competition.

Also Speedweeks is starting up this weekend in Daytona. Probably doesn't affect this weekend since it is the Rolex 24 hour race but would definetly affect the following weeks.

Between the lack of rooms at WDW, the high airfare, the cheerleading, Super Bowl travelers and 2 major conferences, I think this short weeknd trip may be better another time. Thanks for all of your help while deciding. Threehearts

Good luck with your surgery and hopefully when you are all healed you can head down to WDW and really enjoy it at a leisurely pace.

TONS OF PIXIE DUST FOR A SPEEDY RECOVERY....... :cheer2:

Lots of people are heading to WDW for Mardi Gras - that could be another reason why everything is booked - I know numerous people from here that are going this weekend.

...for the nice thoughts. I'm not sure what weekend would be good as the CMs are telling me that the new packages are resulting in high occupancy. Is that PR or truth? Perhaps a CM from the boards will know. Threehearts

I know several Patriots fans heading down for the game and are staying in Orlando because that is the closest they can get to Jacksonville right now.

Our middle school's 6th grade class is on it's way as we type. I think about 250 plus adults. They will be at ASMo through Saturday. So if you see private security, it's to watch the kids all night. Only doing EPCOT - social studies trip
