We stayed in a 2BR at OKW about 2 weeks ago & loved it. Came home & are in the processing of buying an OKW resale.

I thought that when we had originally toured DVC a few years ago that studios have a kitchenette (micro & small fridge). Is this correct & if so do all the DVC studios have them?

Yes, all DVC studios have the mini-kitchen. There are dedicated 2BR villas at all DVC resorts exceot BWV and these do NOT have the kitchen in the 2nd BR.

Enjoy!

Doc is on top of things as usual but I thought I could add some minor details. They do have the small 4 cu ft fridge and small microwave. Glasses and cups for 4 people and enough paper plates, bowls and plastic for 4 for 1 day. I've heard others say they got extra paper/plastic but I was under the impression that it wasn't covered other than the cleaning days and Trash and Towel days. You can get a toaster and blender if you need them by asking. It's been a while since a studio for us but we always took solo cups, plates and plastic utensils along with a couple of cheap microwave dishes as there are none there.

All studios have the same basic minikitchen setup including the Inn rooms at VB. Since you stayed in a 2 BR, will you be able to go back? LOL!

I am sure that DH will stay in nothing smaller than a 1BR, but I was just wondering!!!

BTW - what is a "dedicated" unit. Also, why wouldn't a 2BR at BWV have a kitchen?

A dedicated unit means it will not divide into a 1BR and Studio- or in the case of a 1BR or Studio, will not have a connecting door to make a 2BR.

All 2BR villas will have a kitchen. In a dedicated 2BR, there will be no mini-kitchen in the second bedroom- as in a lock-off.

To add to Doc's description of a dedicated 2BR....

...many 2BR's are formed by getting a studio and 1BR combined....and they have the adjoining door that Doc mentioned (hence the word "lock off". A dedicated 2BR can only be reserved as a 2BR...it cannot be split like the lock offs.

A dedicated 2BR also will not have a door to the hallway in the second bedroom. If you get a 2BR formed from a 1BR and studio, you will have two exits to the hallway.

So..........

The 2BR we stayed in at OKW only had one main entrance & then it was like a condo inside. No "lock-off's" or any additional entrances to any of the rooms from the outside w/ the exception of the doors to the outdoor patio. Was this considered a dedicated?

Is there a preference in getting a dedicated unit or not? Would you hear noise from the neighbors of the connecting door?

Some people don't like "lock off" with kids a certain age. With the second door, its easy for your kids to escape.

Dedicateds have two beds, lock offs have a bed and a pull out couch. Since few people really believe the pull out is "just as comfortable" a dedicated can be nice when you are needing both beds - especially with people at an age to care about a pull out.

But lock offs are nice when you are traveling with other adults or bringing another small family. Our next trip will include my in-laws. We will give them the lock off - and they will have their own kitchenette - and be able to come and go as they please without waking up the kids sleeping on the hide-a-bed in the living room.

MELSMICE...yes, the room you describe is a dedicated 2BR.

And I have only stayed in dedicated 1BR's so far (twice), but my understanding is that the connecting door is pretty good at blocking normal noise levels of the "neighbors".

This is not totally accurate. At OKW, all 2 BR units have 2 queens in the second BR. At VWL, all dedicated 2 BR units have 2 queens in the second but a lockoff has a queen and a pull out. At BWV there are no dedicated is my understanding but regardless, all 2 BR have queen and a pullout full in the second. BCV will actually have it both ways with all lockoff's having the pullout but the dedicated 2 BR are a mixture of 2 queen beds or a queen plus pullout. The reason I said will is that they messed up and are having to retrofit the dedicated 2 BR units to 2 queens and apparently can't do that with all of them. I believe VB only has a pull out plus a queen but am not certain about HH.
