Wow, I just spent $165.00 on myself for a luxury item. I rarely spend that much on any one item, especially something that is totally not needed and that is pretty much for my own enjoyment. I'm usually rather ahh, ok, I'll say it, cheap but this is something that is just so beautiful and that I've been awed by since I first saw the original about 7 years ago. It's a $24.00 poster of an 1868 painting. The rest of the money is for the frame & glass. I ordered it online so I don't have it yet but I'm really excited about it. I just hope the frame I picked goes well with it.

YAY you, I hope it's everything you want it to be!

Life is no fun if you never let yourself splurge every now and again:goodvibes

Nice! Is it on-line? I'd love to see what caught your eye. :)

I have a few prints framed that I love too. Several David Doss Disney prints. :) Are We There Yet is my favorite. :) Mine's small though--I could not afford the large one. Maybe someday... :)
I have a print in my shop that I love and it is a print of old fashioned ladies looking out at the water (Impressionist, I guess). I've loved it for years and when I opened my shop 16 yrs. ago, I bought it and a friend gifted me the matting and frame! 3 yrs. ago, while at the BCV, I saw the same picture on the wall! :)

I agree that everyone deserves a treat now and then. I bet that it'll look real nice.

That's a very pretty painting. The one I'm getting is by Albert Bierstadt, titled Sunset in the Yosemite Valley. I've never been to Yosemite and I know this isn't an exact depiction, he put his own interpretation to it, but I think it's so dramatic and beautiful. The origninal was here at PAFA about 7 years ago in a special show. Here's a link with the frame I chose. You'll have to wait a few seconds for the photo to load, then you can click on it to enlarge. The original painting must be about 7" x 5", not sure but it was huge and so beautiful. This little online photo doesn't really do it justice.

Congrats Philagoofy! We really all do deserve to treat ourselves now and then.

I love that painting!!! Now I may have to get a copy myself. I've been looking for something nice to put above my sofa and that's just my style. I visited Yosemite last year and it's a fantastic place.

That is beautiful!! DH went out west this summer and road mtn. bikes for 11 days. He sent me pics along the way from his phone (no computers on the bike trail) and even those were breathtaking! Made me want to go out west!

He did a number of paintings of Yosemite as well as other places out west. AllPosters has quite a few & you can see his entire work if you Google his name.

I hope you get to go sometime. I'd love to go out to the wide open expanses like you see in old Western movies. I've been to Yellowstone, it was one of the most amazing places I've seen. You live in a pretty state yourself but I suppose we can find beauty anywhere if we look for it!:goodvibes

Thanks, I'll look into his work. Right now I've got a framed print of Mountain Heights by McNaughton hanging in my dining room. So I love those type of paintings.

I'm assuming you are debt free:rolleyes1 Here on the Dis that's the only way you can splurge on a luxury item:rotfl:

I just priced it out and checked on shipping. I decided not to buy it...delivery would be while I'm at WDW! The picture is great but I'm not going to cancel my WDW trip just to get it. :rotfl2:

Bill, you can just order the print for $23 and have it framed at home. Michael's Arts & Crafts usually has 50% off coupons for framing. Also, Salvation Army sometimes gets in big frames that would fit. Just take out the old pic. Maybe have the new pic matted very cheaply, and insert into frame.

I thought of going to Michaels and tried to price their frams online but didn't find anything big enough. Of course I could have just gone to the one that's right by my house to see if they had anything there that would fit, they probably would have. It's crazy that I'm spending so much on the frame & glass for a $24.00 poster.:sad2:

Not only have I finally seen Yosemite, I have actually seen the original of that painting. It really is breath taking in person. So are all his other paintings. They're in Stockton, CA at the Haggin Museum.
