Am I going overboard?

DH found out his work schedule is different than expected so we havet to cancel our Christmas reservation at AKL CL.:(

So, I called MS. DH can still work and enjoy a little vacation because we live in VB.

We're using points for some nights and cash for others.

They did have member discounts available on Christmas and NYE (I didn't think they would.)

Even the Beach Cottages were available with the member discount.

Do they have a party on NYE?

Now I don't feel so bad about having to cancel AKL.

Yes. If you keep bragging like that and happen to be on a boat at the time you are likely to end up " going overboard" !!

Sorry;)

I guess I was just a little excited.

I just read that the resort is not opening until Nov. 20. They must have had a lot of damage.

Has anyone been there for NYE before?

I'm just glad we can get there and spend some money. I'm sure the CM's are anxious to get back to work. ::yes::

That sounds like a good itinerary to me! Have fun!
I am surprised that the cottages are still available....

We were there last year for NYE - had a fun pool party - mostly for the kids with a d.j.

I talked with the General Manager at Hilton Head today about Vero Beach situation. He told me the main concern they had is getting a beach back for the guests to use. They expect to have the rooms back in shape but the beach is still a concern.

Floridafam: I cannot wait until we finally "retire" to Florida and I can go to my home (VB) whenever I want. That's one reason why we decided to purchase at Vero. We LOVE WDW, but if we live so close, we may not want to stay overnight very often. Or maybe we will, who can tell?

My first visit to VB is scheduled for April. I hope there's a beach by then!

Yeah, keep rubbing it in! Vero in the winter AND holidays at the resort -- you got it made!

I just read that Disney is planning to bring in dredges to put sand back. The major beach restoration for the whole area can't start until the turtle mating season is over in November. I read on estimate that it will take until August 2005 to get the beaches back.

There's also no way to access the beaches right now. Sounds like almost all steps up and down the shore were destroyed -- treasure hunters are reportedly using some rickety set of steps. The beach itself also has all kinds of "stuff" on it. Disney probably wants to clean that up before kids are out there.

Wow, that's wonderful! I hope some of the people who have been working so hard get to take advantage of this.

DH works for the cable company, so I don't think he would qualify.

There are still many power crews out throughout the area. They are still here from all over the country. It's quite emotional sometimes. When I first saw the hundreds of power trucks from all over the US driving down our roads, I cried.

Dh has had chance to meet a lot of the power guys because they have been in the same area a lot. Some of them haven't been home in 2 months.

Thanks for the info.
