My family and my Mom will be staying at the Poly in April. I just booked the Luau for one of the nights we are there. Over $ 200.00. I started looking at reviews and saw a lot of terrible reviews. Has this venue gone downhill recently? I had thought that it was a neat thing to do. Are we wasting our money? Now I am thinking I should cancel and try to get into the Hoop dee doo Review. Is that tough to get into? When you make a eservation can you find out where you will be seated? I noticed the earlier you make the reservation the better the seats. Any feedback would be great. My kids are 5 and 7 by he way. Lisa :earseek:

Here is a link to several opinions on the Luau:

If you read the responses in that thread you'll see that the consensus seems to be that the Luau is not worth the time or money. Everyone seems to agree that HDD is much more fun and that you get a lot more for your money.

I have never been to the Luau, but I also had read a LOT of bad or mediocre reviews. I would recommend Hoop Dee Do if you're having doubts. It's hysterical, and the food is good. I just ordered tickets for mid-March a couple of days ago, and they still had plenty of openings. You won't have any trouble booking for April.

we went to the luau when my kids were 4 and 6 and although we enjoyed it, we did not *LOVE* it (we also had expectations of it that were not what it was) fast forward to this past year and the kids were 7 and 9 and we went to HDDR... we *LOVED* it!

i'm sure whatever you decide, you'll have fun... after all, it's DISNEY!

We went as a party of 10 to the Luau (the late evening show). We thoroughly enjoyed it and thought it was worth the price. We would do it again. I know I'm in the minority, however.

We had ages 8 to 70 and everyone thought the food was good and the show great fun. The Polynesian dancing is great and we didn't mind the early part of the show, about a girl returning home from the mainland.

Most of our group is from the west so the luau seemed more exotic than the Hoop De Doo Revue. We went years ago to HDDR and enjoyed it, too.

In short -- we really enjoyed the luau and would do it again. As far as price, where else can you get dinner plus a great show for only $50?

I liked the luau! I don't think it is as horrible as some of the reviews I have read but that is just me. To each their own.

Never know until you try.

The food was good, the fire dancing etc.. was good.

The storyline was very weak and our kids (and us) were bored. But thats just us.. others seem to enjoy it. I was expecting it to be fun & humorous and it was not.. we prefer hoop dee doo.

My wife and I last went this last Nov. We had been twice before for the older show. We both thought the old show was better. We did not "hate" the show like others have stated on this and another post but we have been now 3 times and probably not go again for a few years. The food we good and had no complaints about it and the location is nice. Before we bought into DVC we stayed at the Poly and like this type of resort. I would give it a try and see for your selfs...smjj

Has the show changed since '97? My parents just got back from Hawaii, and told me they liked the show at Disney (they went in '97) better than the Luau show they saw in Hawaii (part of their cruise)-go figure!

We have done the Luau three times in the past, the last time being in 2003. We always love the show and the food. I know it gets a lot of knocks on the boards but I think there are a lot of people that really enjoy it. I would go ahead and keep your ressies, you might be surprised and enjoy it .

Thanks everyone for your input. Sounds like whether you like it or not is subjective. Gigi, I know what you mean about expectations. When my hubby and I saw our first Luau in Hawaii I expected it to be like the luau on the Brady Bunch. Small group of people around a fire, smoking a peace pipe. It was definitely not what I expected . I'm still noy sure what to do. I'm not completely sold on Hoop dee doo. Not a big country fan and the corny jokes don't seem to interest my husband . We are also already staying at the Poly so there is the convenience factor. I think I'll sleep on it. Lisa
