Just booked flights

Just booked our flights for next year, travelling out with V.A on the 10th September for 21 nights at Pop Century.


Tickets were showing at £497.90 for adult but managed to get them for £467.90 with miles plus money. Total cost for four adults and a child £2265.50, i'm happy with that.


We were torn between Old Key West and Pop Century but decided on Pop because we thought it would be better for our 4 year old granddaughter.


This will be the first time my wife will be going with us, so hopefully she will enjoy it.

Well done! Those are great prices. There certainly have been some bargains to be had for next September, but as you have no doubt noticed, you need to keep checking vigilantly. So that deserves and extra pat on the back! Now on with the planning

When it comes to V.A flights - do they reduce/increase the prices for last minute, or are you better off buying so far in advance?

The cheapest flight with V.A I have found for april next year was £614.30 per person

They rarely drop last minute but you can't rule anything out with airlines, they will try for as much money as they can get. Do your dates cover any school holiday? if it they do then I doubt you will do much better than £614, out of season you might get a deal in a sale.

Yeah the dates we have been looking at is the week after Easter, so that makes sense that the flights would costs more! Damn school holidays!!! lol

Are you tied very strictly to school holidays? I don't mean not going in the holidays but could you leave a day before perhaps? I also see you are in Scotland. What route were you looking at flying and do you have small children? Just wondering if we can broaden your options a little

I think Easter is on the 8th April next year? My best friend is off from the 6th - 15th april from uni, so we're stuck for those dates! We are maybe looking into postponing the holiday for another year, and going for 2013 now though

Routes - do you mean were we looking at direct/indirect? If so, I would prefer to go direct, because stop overs scare me!!! lol

Also, it would just be me and my best friend - no small kids

That is probably THE most expensive flight in the country because it only operates on a handful of dates per year.

We have done Easter a few times. We went from EDI to MAN and then MAN to MCO. We have also done GLA direct to MCO, Conitinental from EDI to EWR and then MCO. Next year is EDI to LGW then MCO

Guess which was the WORST trip? Yep, Glasgow direct! Flight is guaranteed to be sold out so jam packed and Glasgow does not usually handle VA so there was chaos and confusion at check in last year and apparently this is pretty normal. Best so far? This year going via NEwark. You can't go wrong with indirect. Just try make sure you don't have too much time at an airport so check your available connections. Everything is sign posted. You cannot go the wrong way. You clear customs at your first US airport and when you get to Orlando you just stroll through to get your bags and you are on your way. It really isn't that bad. I have done more indirect than direct flights (worldwide, not to Orlando necessarily) and always on my own with my DD. First trip she was 3 weeks old You can do it and will then be able to look for fligth sales. On the route you are looking now, most likely scenario is that the seats sell out months before departure date arrives.

Thank you for that!! I think the flight I priced was from Manchester - Orlando. We flew from Manchester last year and really enjoyed that - although was with Thomson! Will look into flying indirect to see what the prices are like for that

The price of £614 was from Kayak or Fly.com - one of those websites anyway - not on VA's website? And the dates were around 11th-18th April.

Looking on VA's website just now - I'm also getting a price of £868.30pp!

What does it look like if they depart the day before? Not sure if her friend can get out one day early but in 09 we found it much cheaper leaving the day before schools came out for Easter.

Stacy, living in Scotland, I just want to point out that no matter where you fly if not right out of GLA, you are effectively doing indirect. If you go from MAN, you have to change at Manchester. So if you go via Newark, JFK, Philidelphia .... or anywhere else for that matter, there is really little difference if any at all.

So funny you mention that. I never thought about it at the time, but I dont recall any other kids at all being on the EDI to EWR flights both ways.
