Just booked a Segway tour...a few questions...

Excellent thread! I just booked this for DH and I, for our trip, on our anniversary. What a way to start our day! :teeth:

Great tips and reports in this thread, and I enjoy the pics too, so I can see exactly what the Segway looks like before we have to actually get on one!

Tomorrow is the big day!
I'll try and upload some pics tomorrow :)

Another person here with a segway tour booked. We managed to get a tour booked for our christmas trip yesterday (we are going the tour on December 27th.) All these pictures look great. I can't wait to see more of them.

I was on the Segway tour just a week ago plus one day. We went as a surprise on my dd's 16th birthday. Like someone posted earlier, I spent the whole two hours with a big grin on my face. It is so much fun! We had people of all ages on our tour and everyone did great, so don't worry. We are booked again with extended family for next Christmas....and looking forward to it.

How soon before you go do you need to book? Can you book after you get there or do they sell out?

You can book tours up to a year in advance. I would definitely book early as there are only two tours/day (8:30am and 9:30am) and they only take ten people/group. I have mine booked for May and called about 120 days out. AP and AAA discounts are available, but be sure to tell them before they start putting your information in the computer or they will have to start all over. Also you must pay by CC at the time it is booked.

I think this tour was the best part of our vacation!!! It was so much fun.

I think there were a couple of times I thought I was going to fall off.

First was when we went down a hill and teh segway was giving me a warning to slow down and I didn't realize what it was doing. It kept jerking. But then I remembered to just lean back and then it was all good. :)

The second time was going over a hump in the garden in China. But I made it.

It was pretty easy to pick up. Just when we really got used to it, the 2 hours were up. I was almost tempted to buy one off of ebay. lol.

I would do this again in a heartbeat.

I'll post a pic soon.

Doe's anyone know if this tour is included in the gold package? There are some tours included I know just not sure if this is one of them. Thanks! :)

This sounds like SOOOO much fun! And I'm relieved to read that even klutzy, uncoordinated people can manage it ('cause I can trip over thin air if you give me half a chance!). I've got BF about 99% talked into going to WDW in September, and I will definitely book a Segway tour for us.

My one question is: if the earliest tour starts at 8:00, is there any difficulty getting from the resort (likely ASMo) to EPCOT that early? We won't have a car; will be relying solely on the buses. What about if we took the 9:30 tour instead?

We had the 8:30 Segway tour and we were staying at the Caribbean. According to the transportation recording on our room phone it said that buses start running one and one half hours before the park opens. You need to be at Guest Relations 15 minutes early so you will have plenty of time to catch a bus. While we waited for our Epcot bus at about 7:45, all of the other park buses made a stop in front of us..so it is obvious that they all do start early (by at least 7:30). I was also told that there is always the character breakfast at Epcot's Norway...so the bus will always be running for those early birds.

Someone wrote me, when I mentioned seeing a place at an RV show that said they hoped to be renting these out for the summer. I had misplaced the card (and now I misplaced their addy), so I'll post it here, and hope they see it! It's westbrook@snet.net
They are located in Westbrook, Ct

I fell off the Segway. It's hard to do because if you overcompensate the Segway freezes up and shakes and makes noises. I had to jump off. Didn't get hurt, just embarrassed.

By the end of the tour, I was dodging children like an expert.

Didn't bring a camera, so no photographic proof available.

My husband and I did the Segway a couple weeks ago. I am embarrassed to admit that I did have trouble. During the learning phase (the first hour), I was fine. I learned to handle it as well as anyone there. But when we got halfway through the countries...all of a sudden my segway started to accelerate. I tried leaning back and it seemed to get faster...I was starting to panic and just when everyone was grouping up at Italy...I couldn't stop so I jumped off...and then it stopped. I never really understood why it did that. From then on I was not comfortable with it. I found it doing it a few more times after that but I was able to slow it down....I think, but I am not sure that when I leaned back as you were supposed to...on your heels...that I may have pulled the handles back with me....but since I was leaning I just couldn't get out of that position. One other woman in our group had trouble and she fell off a couple of times....just before we entered the countries she fell again...so they told her she better not continue...she was so disappointed.
I don't want to discourage anyone....it was fun and my husband loved it as well. I am really disappointed that I had a little trouble....spoiled my fun :confused3
